Painted my car over the weekend using cans, "flat black". Tell me what you guys think. All my friends think I'm psycho, one of my friends said it looks like a Batmobile now.

All body work done by myself, I had no experience in body work before so I think it was good experience for me. Check out the 96-99 clear turns. I'm probably going to wet sand the whole car this weekend there is some over saturation/ overspray in some areas.

Pics taken with my camera phone, car is a little ashy from the fires Cali's been having 30-40 miles away...:

You're looking at 96-99 clear turns custom molded on to a c-one style bumper.

dude that took major balls to do... a few things though.... you might not want to simply bondo the antenna hole.. over time it will crack... I have been told the only "real" way to do it is weld the spot closed.... Also since you are using a flat black, check into the no gloss flat black special celar coat.... it looks good overall. Props

Looks good, but i'm curious what Satin would look like instead on the celi.
supposedly Satin has a tad bit more of a shine.

cool, im a sucker for old school rat rod style... and flat black is deff that

but i caution you. dont leave it in primer too long, the reason primer is primer is b/c it adhears well to paint. why? b/c it absorbes moisture. the paint on your car will look satin when wet but youll begin to see oil spots stuff once the car gets dirty a few times. the real reason it isnt safe is b/c too long and the primer will cause the car to rust since it holds moisture against the paint

Were painting a few cars satin ourselves, but using semigloss enamel so it doesnt absorb moisture

....ya that was like a parental speech, srry
looks great~Jon

This is just temporary. I don't think I can justify a 2000+ paint job on my car since the value of it is probably only 2 or 3k due to high mileage, if I'm lucky.

I'm probably going to find a place that will do the base and clearcoat for under 1k if I do all the prep work.

The reason I did this was to paint over the bondo that I used to cover up the antenna hole and to make the whole car one color. Sure the paint was nice before... but it was a free paintjob with a lot of flaws, that was just a really nice pic using a 8mp camera.

Till I get a real paint job... The Batmobile will live for a month or so. I'll post pics when it's done, it's going to be sexy.

I like it. I have a hotwheels 6th gen on my desk that I painted flat black because it had a really nice flat blue but with some gay ricer cop symbols all over it. After I painted it I told myself if I ever get around to putting a GT4 front end and stock hood (I love the gt4 stock hood so much - kinda don't like the bumper as much as mine though) on my car I would paint it flat black - professionally though.
Good work - my 4th gen looked horrible when I did the same to it. You could see all the lines in it from using spray cans though LOL.

Yeah that looks like her. I had different stock rims and mine was GTS with the lip spoiler, black and I bought it swapped with a 1st gen 3s-gte in it. I later blew that and got a 2nd gen 3s-gte and Turbo - blew that twice and finally had to give her up. I loved that car. I tore it down to the bones and repaired or replaced almost everything on it and she ran like mad. Everything felt brand new on her but she was just a money pit. I' spent like $8k in two years on it.

Chan, I really like your Celica. I think it looks great in flat black. If you want a satin sort of finish, John Deere Blitz Black paint works well, and it's around $26 a gallon I think. It's held up very well on my bro's Celica and was shot through a HVLP eBay special gun (like $30 shipped laugh.gif) but still came out pretty well I think. Anyway, great work...what color do you plan to paint it if you can get it shot with a base coat/clear coat? Black again?

how much bodywork did you do to your car? i know tha bodykit was probably primer or gel coat and you filled your antenea hole (which gives me chills knowing that you used wire mesh and bondo). and what did you scuff the car with? if you got some PPG DP90 epoxy primer it will give you a nice flat black color. although it is ore expensive than blitz black. even though it might seem like i am Criticizeing you but as soon as i saw the word "flat black celica" i turned into a little school girl! its a mean look and coomers is too very nice-both of ya

if my g/f would let me i would do mine all flat black...i think it would look pretty stealthy lookin with hyper black 17's

Bodywork: Fitted and installed the bodykit, custom fitted 96+ clear turns, relocated antenna on top of hatch, shaved antenna hole (I used bondo mesh designed for filling large holes...at least that's what the directions says), sanded and spray painted as you can see.

I'm going to get her painted professionally tonight, I'll post pics when she's done. This flat black is just catching too much dust, so it looks really bad.

Wow a compliment from Ralph96gt! I actually got a lot of my inspiration from seeing your car and tufy's. Anyways... I used bondo to mold the turns. Some of the bondo seaped into the cracks, that's why I sprayed an outline on the lens to cover the bondo seapage and it turn out pretty nice.

Tomorrow's the big day! I'm getting it back freshly painted. I'll post pics probably around 6 or 7 pst.

I'd like to thank CHANH, if it wasn't for him, I would have never had the oppertunity to own a 3S celica! Although its been a bumpy ride so to speak, its always rewarding once driven:)

Gosh Chanh, I always was a fan of your celica, but your SC gives me thoughts and temptations that would make my Celica jealous if it only knew. Haha, James tried to get me to buy an SC for almost a year. I'm still confused if I want to get the SC300 or GS300. Or wait until next year and get the GS350 when I can afford it mmm.
