treat it good (don't "floor it") and it will last well into the high 100 thousands. from your description, it sounds like it is too late for that.

I had 185,000 with a little extra when i took out the 5sfe - and it was running fine, no drips, no burning oil. They're good engines, i was quite impressed and i've definately pushed the engine before.

Use synthetic oil, make sure u change it every 3,000. Do injector cleaner every once and a while. I started using 93 octane to extend life. Things evenutally going to wear out, but thats on every car, just take care of it it'll last as long as u want. Look at some of the Model A's and T's that FORD built way back in the 20's. It'll last as long as u wanna take care of it.

So last night, I just get back from watching 'Bruce Almighty" (nice funny family flick), and I turn the ignition key, it turns and then dies on me. It idled at 900 for one second then . . .that's it, the engine's off. I had to press on the gas for awhile to get it going. I wonder what is causing it.

I treat it like crap (canyon carving and the like) and it has 157k. It leaks oil from every seal it has (checked this using oil tracers), has thick smoke in the morning, and hesitates upon hard acceleration. It wasn't taken care of by previous owner and I've been less than stellar at maintenance, hence the engine swap. Properly taken care of though, and the thing will last you into the 200k mileage range and beyond. It's a Toyota, 'nuff said.

Yea I put like 6k miles on my car since February. I recommend using synthetic or high mileage oil and checking your oil once a week especially if you drive it hard. The change to synthetic made a solid improvement in performance and the smoothness of running. Trying the engine oil additives to fix engine seals helped prevent oil usage for maybe 2k miles. 97k and still running strong

Yeah, i have around 180 thousand on my 5sfe, and it still runs great. Im gonna give it a tune up real soon, cuz it could use some nice synthetic oil and new spark plugs.....but yeah i get on it every now and then but no problems whatsoever since ive owned it, going on a year now. wink.gif

Claudio, mine pulled that trick, but it never started afterwards, had seemed a little reluctant for a week or 2 b4 this, had it towed to the dealer. the dealer checked it out, the new Bosch Platinum+4 were completely fouled, totally covered with a layer of black soot, they decided the (new) Bosch wires had too much resistance,,,(they did measure a lot higher than the toyota wires) /// anyway, new stock wires and plugs and it runs like new again.

94,000 miles on my '94 ST. However, just a reference my Dad's 93 camry has 150,000 miles on the V6. Both engines, no problems what so ever.

My car is at just over 140,000 and its running perfect. Toyotas are built to last, I wouldnt be surprised to see some Celicas get into the 200,000 mile range. Keep up on oil changes and treat the car good and it'll run for quite a while.

Sorry to hear you bought a lemon, glad though its covered under a warranty. I think anytime you buy a used car it can be a crap shoot. Probably the person who had it before abused the crap out of it. I bought mine used with 65,000 miles on it. Since then I've changed the 1. timing belt, all other belts in the engine, spark plugs replaced, engine flush, transmission flush, coolant flush, and regular oil changes... that's just the engine/tranny. I've had a lot of other brake work done, but again no engine leaks and it runs great and gets good fuel economy. With 85,000 miles I drove 3000 miles across the U.S. with it, never missed a beat.

Mine has 141,000 and I haven't had any probs yet. Other than the accident I got into a couple years ago, it's only been to the shop to get the alternator belt changed. This is by far the best car I've ever owned.
