I love VW. I wonder how fast you could really make the 1.8T. Very pretty car. I'm noticing a lot of small details all over that thing. I think it's better than that BMW. It's more refined.

Why are they considered the engines for novice tuners who don't want much hp? And the VR6 is the one everyone uses. They've been using that same 1.8 for a long time. I like it, and I've always thought it would work better than most give it credit. 350hp is high. Is the car street worthy? -------------------- Live Free, Be Happy

The car have plates and is driven on a daily basis on the street ![]() VW Audi just came out with a new 2.0 litre turbo FSI engine this year in Europe (not sure about the US).. 200 hp stock.. If someone find a way to configure or switch out that FSI system you can get a bit higher than the 1.8 because of the increased bore. And I'm sure that the 2.0 block can have a lot more even in stock form (on later models or something). Because they are after all selling 190'ish hp 1.8T engines on stock cars. The Audi S-series have that version. I have already seen numbers high in the 200 range just by remapping the 2.0T engine. So with a rebuild and a new turbo I'm sure you can get about 400 safe hp. Remember CFT (Central Florida Turbo) pushing 553 bhp on their rebuilt 1.8 B18 block with a 1.6 B16 head and a huuge turbo. I won't call that car street worthy, but still. A 2.0 block with original turbo should be able to push alot if you really want it to. And some other company (don't remember their name) have a 650 hp RX-7 (that's a 1.3 litre, remember) and a 800 hp Silvia (that's a 2.0 litre!). Those cars are not street worthy, but you get my drift. I think 350 hp is doable on the 1.8T and 400 is well in reach on the 2.0T -------------------- ![]() |

thouse 1.8Ts are sexy and pretty quick. I might be buying a 02 VW Golf 2dr 1.8T, the guy i was talkin to at VW has a Jetta GLI and a A3 2.0T 4 dr and he was sayin that a stock 1.8T after 2001 can spank a VR6 golf. My friend has a 1.8T Jetta that he put a boost controller, short throw shifter, BOV, and a remus full exhaust system on it. Hez puttin out 310WHP at 9PSI on stock internals.

What I was saying was comparing the two engines. The 2.0Turbo Toyota, and 1.8/2.0Turbo VW. Might as well through a 2.0 Subaru in there. I just here the 3sgte is the best engine in the world, but I want proof. Without proof, nothing exists. -------------------- Live Free, Be Happy
