so im out driving my celica around. and any time i boost the coolant temp guage rapidly goes up. so i stop boosting and then it goes down. full coolant wasnt low.
![]() ok the sensor thats in the top right hand corner the one you cant see in the pic has nothing connected to that wire no place to hook it up to. could that be the problem. if so which i think it must. what do i do. am i missing where that plugs into? -------------------- |

from top to bottom you have, oil presure, cold start injector switch (tan) and coolant temp sensor (green). the coolant temp sensor (green) is NOT the one that sends a signal to the gauge cluster... thats handled by another sensor that you dont have in the pic. from your pic, it looks like your cold start injector switch is damaged.
the sensor for the gauge cluster temp, does plug in. you have to hurnt around for the plug on your harness -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

yeah i THINK thats the one that goes to the gauge. doubble check it tho. its known to short out a lot since the wire it connected to it directly

What are you using for a radiator?
-------------------- QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this. |

nah. i havent replaced it. we are flushing the coolant system now to make sure no air is in the system. the needle stays right in the center while normal driving but when i get on it it shoots up but as soon as i let off it just falls back down. without blowing the cap off or anything thats why we think its air in the system. ps stock gt radiator
http://www.mr2oc.com/showthread.php?t=168129 check it. some say blown headgasket wich scares me. -------------------- |

yeah, it could be a headgasket
do a compression test. that will tell you if its anything major its definelty not air in your cooling system thats causing it This post has been edited by lagos: Mar 9, 2006 - 5:25 PM -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

sounded like an air pocket to me...
easy sign for bad head gasket is usually oil in you water and/or water in your oil. thermo is supposed to go in one way so if you ever change it make sure the little thingy lines up with the water neck line! dg -------------------- ![]() |

I'm pretty sure, anyway. Also John, if it happens again, take your radiator cap off and then let the car warm up to normal operating temp, and watch for any air bubbles coming out. If you don't any, try revving the engine up to get some pressure in the cylinders and see if you get any.
I have seen a blown head gasket where the only symptom was air being forced into the cooling system when it was running. Also, if it is a head gasket (not likely), don't stress too much, it's really not that bad of a job. -Doc -------------------- -Dr Tweak, 6GC's resident engine swap wiring expert extraordinaire Click here to see my swaps drtweak@phoenixtuning.com |

noooo. well. the coolant keeps disapearing and when i flushed the radiator the brown foamy coolant mixed with oil of death came out the top. all signs say blown headgasket.
horrrray more downtime. hopefully i can get it done sometime this week. anyone wanna help lol. and it is air in the colant system thats causing the guage to sky rocket. cause it reading extremely hot turbo air. so i figured bleeding it would do it. and it did for a bit. but as soon as the gasket let more boost in the coolant it raises the temp again. so it is caused by the air in the coolant system but thats causes by the head gasket. so its a cause and effect type thing. that sucks. i guess thats what we get for buying junkyard motors that no one wanted in japan. its a hit or miss kind of thing.
what gasket are you going to go with? nows a good time to upgrade it . -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

well. i plan to buy any 2mm head gasket. metal ofcourse
then i have to take off the intake manifold so i figure ill throw one of those plastic compound gaskets on. to reduce intake temps a few degrees. -------------------- |

Do yourself a favor and get a real water temp gauge. The stock gauge is not really that accurate. The gauge on my alltrac barely ever moved, even though the ECU showed major fluxuations in temp.
