Well I just installed my magnaflow oval muffler 2.5" onto my 94 2.2 liter celica. First impression was I lost a fair amount of low end torque..... and its seems to rev up faster, but I want more economy than a race car.
-This is what my system composes of now:
1. Exhaust manifold to factory cat on manifold
*flex tubing was removed* as it was rotten and I just welded in a solid pipe
so now I get a little vibration at high revs not good gotta get a new flex pipe.
I couldn't believe how restrictive this piece was!!!! *But maybe this motor needs
some restriction?????
2. Stock size exhaust tubing
3. I kept the resonator muffler
4. After the resonator muffler I went to 2.25" tubing up and over the support beam
just like factory does.
5.then to 2.5" magnaflow oval muffler....
*Now the sound is slightly more aggressive but nothing shattering or even slightly attention grabbing.....
***THe real breaker in this deal is if my mileage dropped.... That can't happen I am thinking I should possibly try.
1. Removing the resonator muffler * to get a louder exhaust note
2. reinstall the factory muffler and smaller exhaust tubing to up the backpressure,
*Has anyone tried this idea as I wonder what it sounds like and does to the torque on take off??
Basically what I am after is louder exhaust but same factory torque down low......
THanks.....

you're driving different. its like when you get an intake and your milage drops, you're being more agressive with the gas pedal. its called 'rice induced mileage loss'

magnaflow is suppose to sound like that, and not a rice attention grabber sound. If you wanna keep the magnaflow, get a header for your car. If you take the resonator off, i heard it will make it buzzing raspy rice-like sound, and i dont think you want that.
