I think it needs some cleaning and a few new things like gaskets, belts, spark plugs for sure. and the do you guys think about the exhaust manifold? That one is real rusty.

1.) looks like a noise filter.
2.) that orange stuff is called gasket sealent. 3.) You should smack the place you bought the clip from cause it looks terrible, leaking oil in the valve cover and obviously rusty. Im sure it has 100K miles already. This post has been edited by soulshadow: Mar 30, 2006 - 9:49 AM |

There are 115135 on it is that miles or kilometers? I guess I have to fix the engine up it's gonna cost more then I thought it would have. I should have just bought the engine and wasted my money that way

I am afraid that you will have more troubles than the exterior problems of this engine.. It seem that it had very tough times when it was united with the rear cut..

Its not bad...what manifolds arent rusty? Someone just used some orange RTV to try and seal the valve cover. Just replace the gasket and get a twosrus allen bolt kit to tighten it down.

also i wanna say replace EVERYthing you can.
water-pump, distributer, plugs, fuel filter, belts, esp the head-gasket if needed. do a compression check just to make sure. that will show you a definite leak but a compression test wont help if the hole is very small and only leaks with boost, much more psi would have to be pumped in the cylinders to check for such a small hole. also check for any signs of oil and coolant mixing. like the underside of the oil cap. look for a milky substance. almost like an oil and coolant milk shake. when you have the exhaust manifold off check to see if the ports coming out look normal (covered in black carbon) and not squeaky clean, if one port is extremely clean compared to others than that cylinder has coolant entering it. also check the old coolant, if there is any still in the radiator for oil. im just saying that from experience. it sucks to have to redo things when the motor is already in. take what the people who sold you the engine say with a grain of salt. Can someone tell me more about what type of clutch I need for the swap? I use the 5SFE tranny with the 3SGTE motor. I ask because I just called Spec preformance clutch and the guy put me on hold and never answered the phone again

yea you should contact a different person from spec
READ the stickies ![]() "Lagos wrote: Clutch: if using the gt tranny with the 3sgte motor, you will need: 5sfe disk (or a custom made 3sgte disk, with the splines for the 5sfe tranny) 5sfe throwout bearing 5sfe alignment tool 3sgte pressure plate 3sgte flywheel (or just get your stock one resurfaced)" |
