unless its a WA SMIC, you probably want the fmic. probably should look for a slimmer radiator though; id expect trouble with that in the future... looks clean though, good job!

edit: also in your profile pics, your rad hose resting on the turbo scares me... should probably move that too.

TT Supras, TT 300ZX's, all turbo Eclipses, Nissan Silvias, VW/Audi 1.8T vehicles and many other cars came with stock side mounted intercoolers... Take a look through the hole under the passenger fog light in a newer 1.8T Jetta and you can see for yourself (most of the other cars have been modified so much by now that you wouldn't see them...). smile.gif

beauitiful car man! t3-60 right? hows it pull and at what psi do you run at?

oh and the SMIC almost looks like a DSM/Mitsu side mount am i right? If so, those things hold their own especially for that setup. the VR4 guys are using twin DSM intercoolers from 1G as an upgrade or for the SL 3000gt to be turboed they use them as well. much higher flow than a little 7a needs.

thanks guys biggrin.gif ,i went with a side mount because everyone does the fmic , and this way when i pull up next to the civic or sunfire drivers they wont know what was under my hood until they see taillights and hear the pssss sound of defeat .....muuhaaaa!!!!.... just joking wink.gif i am running 7psi on my stock injectors with a 12:1 fmu it seems to love the boost and want more !!! how does it pull ? i dont know yet i am taking it easy right now and i have a lot more to go ,
i want to see if i can get this little 1.8l to hang with the honda b16 turbo that my wife has smile.gif yes it is a mitsu smic from a 97 eclipse my freind has a 3000gt and we learned about the poteintial of this little smic ,i think (correct me if i am wrong) it can handle up to 18 psi and cool verry well . more than what i plan on but you never know laugh.gif the radiator i am having a costom one made and i removed the tranny cooloing lines and had a tranny cooler put in along with a oil cooler in the other fender, i am also getting costom bent polished radiator hoses so i dont have any problem wink.gif ......... thanks again and if any one has any advise please share smile.gif

they also have some form of ducting to force air over them, so that they cool, and most owners of any of these vehicles will tell you thats one of the FIRST upgrades they make, is to a FMIC.

TRD, get some cool air over that IC,
or your soon gonna be picking up peices of your pistons off the road.

Lol... yes, airflow is at least as important as size/effeciency of the core. If the air can go around it, it will - and they you loose all your cooling.

I was responding to the poster who didn't even know that side mount intercoolers existed. They are a great way to package small intercoolers on stock cars. smile.gif

here is an older pic of my set up on my 7agte my oil cooler is mounted in the passager side which with the invader front the air flow is perfect then goes to my remote filter i have a custom made hard line for the upper rad house as for the rad i would just go with a KOYO one they fit already and you would have to change hoses but your doing that anyways

i think the smic will work ok for me like nik said the veilside kit let good air flow in also i have the z3 fenders that let air by and i modified a eclipse inner wheel fender so i have the vents to let air go out wink.gif

How is the car feeling since the install, you said it felt like it had a lot left in it? Did you end up getting all the extra parts for the system? BOV, Timer...

Hehehe... just be careful (to the original poster)... turbo motors always feel their strongest right before they blow. biggrin.gif frown.gif

Just by getting a bit of air on the SMIC is not enough. You need direct air to flow right through it, so there is heat exchange. Just by a bit of air blowing it it's not going to cool the charge air down. smile.gif
