Alright. im waaay confused.

Heres my situation
i got my amp in the trunk.
The power from the battery in the engine bay travels from their to the trunk. the coords from the head unit also do the same. Now the grounding wire that came in the rockford fosgate amp kit, is only like.... 8" long, its not going anywhere but in the trunk.
So, i found a screw already grounded, inside the place where the jack goes, put the ground wire there, gscrewed back in... no power? decided it was a bad ground.
moved it. drilled a tiny little hole under the carpet, next to the place where the jack goes. screwed it in. no power?

unscrewed it. turned car on. it has power....

The amp will turn on when not grounded, but when it is grounded it wont turn on.
The amp will turn on, but wont send signals to my speakers or amps. so i dont know what its doing.
im really confused. and any information would be helpful! thank you.
limited.

fye amp = p3002 subs = 8" phase 1
speakers = 6 x9 40ways

rockford fosgate of course wink.gif

Did the amp work before?

Did you try to temporally hooking up the system directly up to the battery worry about a bad ground or a bad power cable?

yep yep.

i read about the amp. and the "thermal light" is on. which means the amp is over heating and needs to cool off before it will allow it to send signals again, but the thing is. its never been hooked up before so how could it be over heated? hmm?

still nothing. same problem

i took an old bazooka amp i had laying around in the garage. hooked it up with the wires from the RF one and it works fine and sends signals and hte speakers play. so, i know its 100% not my wiring now, and something is wrong with teh amp. Hopefully i can take it back to where my parents go it and they can help me out. even tho it was for christmas. =/

dude that is not your problem, your sub may have too low an ohm rating for your amp putting it into a protection mode (not just for overheating)... older amps would play if it was the wrong rating then eventually catch on fire or blow up (ive seen both).. check your specs on both and how the sub is wired is its a dual coil.

its not only the subs. its not workign with the speakers either.

It is a Rockford fosgate PUNCH amplifier. and the subs + speakers are PUNCH too. im almost 100% positive that all PUNCH stuff will work with other PUNCH stuff.

amp is 300 wats 40hms
subs are 40hms
speakers are 6x9 4-ways 4ohms.

sub-s? if theres 2 4 ohm subs, depending on how its wired you got 2ohms right there then speakers are 4 ohms each and theres prolly two of them making another 2 ohms, then depending on how u wired that you get a 1ohm load on the amp..... this makes it go into protection.

just testing it, i only have either 1 speaker or 1 sub in. im just testing it to make sure everything is working properly before i start fiberglassing biggrin.gif

i dont have all 4 connected at the moment.

with nothing connected, it still shows the Thermal light being on.
only power and the 3 wires from the head unit plugged in to the amp.

if i connect the ground cable it wont power up at all.

okay here is my crappy drawing.

IPB Image

now if the GND isnt connected, the amp will power up, but wont send signals cuz the thermal light is ON.
if the GND is connected, the amp will not turn on at all.
If the GND is not connected, and i have 1 speaker connected, i get the same results if there was no speakers connected, or all 4 connected, no signals sent from amp to speakers/subs.

The head unit has 3 wires comign from it. 2 of which look like sumthing you would connect your PS2/xbox to your tv with. with a red + white end. and then theres the really small little skinny one too. which is labeled REM on the amp. the red and white are labeled IN. right next to the 'IN' area, theres two more spots for a "pass thru" which im not using cu i dont have another amp. Right of the "in" spots, is there you connect the (in order left to right) REM -> GND -> B+
left of the "in" theres (fromt right to left) a little knob for cross over -> the boost controller plug in -> speaker 1 + - speaker 2 + -

so yeah. thats what my drawing is. and is exactly how my car is set up right now.
ill get batteires when i go get my new razr since my phone broke.

sounds like the amp is bad, it should not be able to complete a circuit without the ground wire hooked up. if it is, something is shorted. one last thing to check is make sure the remote wire your using from the deck is the right one. other than that you need to return the amp for another. sorry dude. anyways i gotta run errands so anything else you want to ask me shoot a PM.
