Wastegate was dangling by ONE bolt!
![]() No clue how it got to that point. ![]() My friend tightened all the hardware, replaced gaskets and everything is merry. Car is pulling very hard now. He alligned it...now it drives straight like an arrow...until boosting. Torque steer is still an issue. I wish it was a little bit but it's too much. Either pulls to one side or the other. Another friend of mine drove it and he got scared and almost hit the curb. And he drives an 11 second flat Mirage. ![]() -------------------- |

If your getting pulling in either direction while your driving on the highway you might have a mount issue.

i don't notice that much torque steer except for off the line. Can't you still get an LSD with an auto tranny? (I know my friend got posi in his auto camaro, but i know posi and LSD are not exactly the same). In any case i'd recomend switching to a manual transmission unless you plan to run much higher boost.

Well, when going plenty fast, it doesn't pull to the side. It's more when rolling or from a dead stop.
EDIT: Mounts are fine...car only has 38,000 miles. The auto tranny is staying in, but we're concocting a little recipe for it. Gosh, less than a month and I'll be able to start the next phase of the project. ![]() This post has been edited by OOBE: May 3, 2006 - 8:04 PM -------------------- |

so you are running on a re-built 7afe right? or is it a factory replacement engine?

Yep, rebuilt. I only replaced the pistons and rings because #3 broke by the ring land...product of a little boo-boo I did.

Nothing exciting about an auto 3sgte. I would be disapointed.

Sry for the questions, but I am afraid this is the route I have decided to go. Yep. I used the old rods, and just replaced the pistons with some replacement ones...I can't remember their brand. I think they're King or something. To be honest, I trust those stock rods...the pistons are the ones that scare the hell out of me. They are so fragile and thin. But the rods I would trust them...they are thin compared to other rods, but I have trust in them. I already pushed the engine to dangerous TGTs and boost levels on stock injectors with that one broke piston for over 6 months and nothing got worse. I have beaten the hell out of that engine and it's still brand new looking and working. Oh, and I replaced the cam gear seal and all the other gaskets with original Toyota parts. Only non-Toyota parts are the pistons and rings and the reason is because they were in stock...Toyotas were not. -------------------- |

nice setup, OOBE. a few questions for you :
how long has your setup been going, and how much boost are you running? is the tq steer really that bad? what are your plans for the future? I remember your old video, I think you were misfiring or something in one of the cylinders, and the car still looked pretty quick. Do you have any more completed videos? |

QUOTE(sinner96ST @ May 11, 2006 - 9:33 AM) nice setup, OOBE. a few questions for you : how long has your setup been going, and how much boost are you running? Since June 2003. I started at 3 PSI and right now I am at 12. is the tq steer really that bad? Yes, even with a fresh realignment...just when taking off. If going fast, it's not noticeable. I have never driven the car with the stock rims after turbocharging. It has had the 17" Enkeis all the time. Not only torque steer is bad, but also traction loss, especially when it's wet or raining. what are your plans for the future? Well, I am waiting to get out of the Army so I can return to my home and finish the car...that will happen this month. I have to do the tranny tricks, and install the torque converter, the EMS, and the forged internals. Manifolds and valves will remain stock for now so I test everything out. I remember your old video, I think you were misfiring or something in one of the cylinders, and the car still looked pretty quick. Do you have any more completed videos? I uploaded a few ones not too long ago. I'll re-post them! ![]() -------------------- |

Thats a downside to high horsepower applications with an auto transmission......its harder to manipulate boost like you can with a manual transmission, like more of a point and shoot sort of dealm instead.
My friends WRX is auto, and its a little tricky sometimes to really control the boost. If I'm driving it in bad weather or snow I always accelerate easy otherwise the thing will want to take off running, although its not so unstable with AWD to keep things secure. They do make mechanisms that allow you to manually shift your A/T, I think level 10 makes a good one. Maybe the new torque converter, manual electronic shift and transmission cooler with a little heavier trans oil will help out the situation......using a slightly heavier oil will help the transission to shift more positively without all the slipping. EDIT- I'd like to see the videos too, I just remember seeing the one where you drive up to the dog and pet him. ![]() This post has been edited by Silver94CelicaOwner: May 11, 2006 - 6:13 PM -------------------- 3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting. |
