Hey guys,

Now that my project is getting close to completion, I figured it would be a good time to post a few teaser pics. The final product is going to be a 3rd gen 3s-gte from an ST205 (JDM '95 Celica GT4) with an E153 tranny and KAAZ LSD.

Picture of the GT4 clip before I bought it:
IPB Image

ST205 AWIC heat exchanger + tranny cooler:

Now you see it, now you don't:
IPB Image

I had to use a smaller water pump for the intercooler:
IPB Image

The motor is buttoned back up after a new timing belt, water pump and seals all around:
IPB Image

Motor going back together

V6 Camry rear disk brakes:
IPB Image

I'm currently waiting on my tranny (LSD install in an E153) and the bracket to hold the e-series tranny axles to the block. Wiring is done (except for the A/C wiring) and ready to plug in. After I get those parts, its time for the flywheel (Fidanza aluminum) and clutch (SPEC Stage 2), assembly, install, test, troubleshoot then break-in.

Comments and questions are welcomed!

-Charlie

Great Job Charlie!

Welcome to the 3SGTE Camry club tongue.gif Now all you need is the AWD part.

Are you going to use the ST205 brakes all the way around? You should change the Power Steering High Pressure Line now while you have the engine out, those are prone to leaking and are a pain to change out.

Definitely need to get and Oil Filter Relocation Kit, the stock filter location will make contact with the Sway bar bracket.

Here is a recent picture of my current set up:

Good Luck!

Only reason I didn't swap it into the Celica is because I had already done the 4AGE 20v swap. Besides Alltrac Camry + ST205 Celica = Soooo much fun. The look on peoples faces is priceless. I'll be getting some video of the car in action soon, random peoples expressions, and possibly on the dyno.

We should compare dyno numbers when you get it running Charlie biggrin.gif . Hopefully I'll have some HP/TQ numbers myself by then.

Question why: I build sleepers. I don't build cars for show. I build them to drive them and enjoy them. My original plan was a 2nd gen 3s-gte, but the clip was such a good deal I went for it... When this is done, I'll have a 250whp car with 4 doors that gets 30mpg and won't attract any attention from cops with less than with about $6k invested (including the car!!). What more can you want?

I have the rear diff 'n stuff from the clip also, but I will be waiting to find an all-trac Camry to do that swap... There is no reason to do a custom AWD setup when there is a stock version out there. If I find a good all-trac Camry, everything is getting swapped over. It should pretty much be a plug-n-play thing to swap my current setup into an all-trac.

Craig, I'll let you know how the oil filter relocation works out once I have the motor in the car. smile.gif

-Charlie

PS. My PS high pressure line, steering rack, tie rod ends, wheel bearings, axles, bushings, springs, struts, swaybars and many other things are new or very recently replaced... pretty much everything the car is new (except for the primer gray outside!)

SWEET!!! Turbo Camry!!!

I got some questions.. How does the body hold? I mean with all the power its pushing now is there a problem on a twisting frame or any of that sort?

Any plans on upgrading the turbo or any component to get more hp/tq out?

What rims/tires are you going to run??

MORE PICS!!!!

Thanks! biggrin.gif

The body is doing just fine. Even with 320k miles on it! tongue.gif The frame and all that will be fine with the power, but I already upgraded every suspension component I could get my hands on (I have every aftermarket suspension part available for the car, pretty much). I will be interested to see how the front suspension handles 250hp+, since it is not a normal lower a-arm / machpherson setup. It uses a single lower lateral link with the front swaybar running a big loop to the front of the car acting as a drag link at the same time. The only advantage I see is weight/simplicity and I now have the ability to adjust caster...

Before the motor swap, I had a simple turbo kit on the car that was probably pushing 160hp or so at the flywheel... Faster than any stock V6 Camry I had ever been in, but nothing special (heh, not compared to my WRX, at least!).

My plan for the motor is this: Boost controller (12lbs or so 'low' and 16lbs 'high'), 3" mandrel exhaust (the car already has 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust, good enough for now) and that's it. I want to drive this car at least 30k miles as is with no major work other than oil changes.

I currently have 7th gen Celica GTS wheels with 205/50-16 Falken GRB451 tires. Those wheels won't fit the ST205 brakes I have (front AND rear!), but I might just sell those brakes and not worry about the hassle of upgrading (everything would have to be customized to fit...)

-Charlie

PS. I'll have more pics when its all done!

Those would be even more sleeper, as they are even more of a family hauler type car... The bad part is that they are about 500lbs heavier than mine.

Actually, a buddy of mine should be finishing up a 3rd gen swap in his '94 (I think?) Camry coupe... He's running his with an AEM EMS though, not the stock ECU... We are definitely going to have fun rolling around and surprising people!

Yup, Alan's car. They were putting in the intercooler pipes last time I talked to him... the motor is in the car, wiring harness is done, etc. It may already have been started by now!

I'm still waiting on the tranny. frown.gif

All-trac Camrys were available in the US from '88-'91. They had AWD versions in Japan through '01, as far as I understand.

My Camry is just FWD though... It has a E153 w/ Kaaz LSD though, so traction isn't a huge problem.

I'm debating whether to get an all-trac Camry at the moment - but it kinda looks like a basket case and I'm not up for another huge project again (I've been working on this Camry for 8 months for the motor swap - I just want to drive it!)

Nice job...always have time for people who put effort into achieving what they want no matter what it is.

Think your gonna be very disapointed though if you expect to get 30mpg from a 3rd gen 3sgte...half that and you`ll be somewhere close.

Actually, I got 22mpg on my first tank - and that's with me on it CONSTANTLY. I'd like a slightly lower final drive, but it really is pretty reasonable. I think mid-20's for mileage is more realistic at this point. Don't forget that I'm 2wd. smile.gif

I was the same....when I first had the faff I got about 28 MPG...but the longer you have it the more you learnt to drive it and get more from it...petrol goes down quicker...I now average about 12MPG frown.gif

But its f`ing quick now smile.gif

Whats worse is its so hot here at the moment I`m getting even less MPG...and the poor gt4 hates hot weather.

People put the 3sgte in lots of different toyotas, this camry being no exception. I've even seen one in a 7th gen celica.

Although, I would've thought you would've used a newer (94+) shell to put it in, it's still a nice sleeper. Didn't that car have a 3s-fe in it to begin with?

Well, I already had the car, which is a big reason for using it as the starting platform. I really don't like the '92-'96 Camry body style and I can't afford a '97+ Camry as a second car. Besides, those cars are 500lbs+ heavier... I have A/C, a decent stereo, decent suspension and (now) reliability - which is all I need for this car.

And yes, the car had the 3s-fe in it originally. Very little modifications had to happen to get the motor in the car - only the rear mount had to be modified.

There's a video on streetfire.net of that beast, it sounds like it has no engine, just a giant turbo under the hood. it's insane.

edit: stupid forum keeps double posting me.. wtf.
