I know my synchro is out on 5th gear and a lil bit on the rest of the gear. but is it possible to open it up and make it brand new again?

Well it is like any other transmission. It can be taken apart and rebuilt.
It might be cheaper to just get a new or used tranny though.
Go to a junkyard or something and ask if they have any 5sfe transmissions.

Well if you know alot about mechanics, try it yourself.
If you mess it up you can always get a new one.
Im not sure how much a rebuild for our transmission would be
but if i had to say maybe 500-700 dollars depending on
where you take it. IMO i think you should just call around and see
if anyone has any used transmissions and get a warranty on it that
way if it doesnt work...get another. Hope im of some help.

well MR2 guys have swapped out the inside of a 5sfe tranny and put the e153 parts into the 5sfe tranny...i read it off their forums awhile ago...

Put pennzoil synchromesh gear oil in it first

CelicaGT04 uve been very helpful. ive found a 68k tranny for 500. but if the mr2 guys are putting the e153 tranny in there i rather do that. How would the pennzoil synchromesh actually fix my problem? sorry for the burden.
