Hi, I looked throgh FAQ and couldn't find any good info on 1.8L to 2.2L swaps.
My car looses a lot of oil and its either I sell (get rid of it) or swap an engine into it.
And since its really difficult to find 1.8L I was thinking of swaping 2.2L in place of it.
So my question is how hard it is to swap 2.2L engine + auto tranny (my car is auto) into
1.8L ST?

Do I use the same mounts or will I need to make new mounts for the engine/tranny?
Will the wiring just plug in? (I know I'll need to use another ECU)?

If anyone did this before please tell how difficult it is and if it is or not a direct fit.
Thank you wink.gif

I'd be about the same work to put in a 3sgte.

Which means: rewiring some stuff; new mounts, not its not a direct fit.

get a 4age. its more powerful and you can use the same tranny (i think) and motor mounts. only problem is the wiring.

Too bad I dont have a garage. If I did I would buy an old civic as my daily while doing a swap. But since I cant do that and as I found out now that putting 2.2L is a lot of work = big $$$$ at AutoSHOP I guess I'll start looking for another celica. frown.gif. Damn that sux!!! Cuz I did so much work on this car!!!

Sounds like a lot of work for only 35 horsepower. Have you thought about turbocharging?

I vote 4age. Easier swap, more hp, and a really big aftermarket.

Why is your motor loosing a lot of oil? Bad valve seals, or a leak somewhere?

7A's are prone to valve seal problems, which is pretty easy to fix cheaply.

Also 7A'S aren't hard to find just find someone that has swapped for power and not engine issues. Or look into a junk yard for a totaled Celica, Corolla or Geo Prizm LSI. It would be cheaper to have a shop put in a used 7A then to try and do a swap if you don't want to.

Man - yourself in a garage - I am impressed! This is very "russian"! - (felt I could say that
being russian myself). Having 2.2 myself must say it feels surprisingly weak for such a light car.
Gas mileage is significantly worse than 1.8.
