I'm a little disappointed in the gas mileage of my 5 speed '99 GT. I use the car every day and can put up to 400 miles per day on the car. Coming from a '92 ST that averaged roughly 38 MPH, I was hoping for at least mid 30's from my '99 but seem to be stuck right around 30 MPG. I was just curious if anyone else is getting better mileage and if so, what brand plugs are you using, air filter...etc. My car now has 72,000 miles on it and am planning a full tune-up this weekend.

If you got 38 mpg in an ST you were really freaking lucky. It's only rated at 34 highway. I get in the low 30's on the highway. Mixed driving it's high 20's.

My mom travels over 100 miles a day, and she gets close to 350 on the tank all highway driving. She has a 99 conv. GT. In the st she got around 400. We get pretty good mileage.

Only filled her up twice since I bought it, both times got about 30, with mixed driving.

Can't wait to see what i'll get on a strictly highway trip.

Word. 12-18 depending on use. Might manage low 20's on cruise. And our gallons are bigger than yours.

I Just Can't believe the highest MPG you have gotten was only 18!!! Even if its 4wd and 450lbs more in weight. 4th and 5th gear are longer so at a steady speed you should have lower RPM's then me(which should help in the milage)

I get about 17-25, the best I had was 25 but that was on a motorway doing about 70 for a few miles, I normally average about 18 though, I have a very heavy right foot and boost at 1.1 bar all the time smile.gif At 70 in 5th I am at 3k rpm but 70 is very boring, 140 at 6ish k is fun.

now that i drive hwy every day to and from work, i'm getting around 400 miles to a tank, just under 30mpg... sometimes 28, sometimes 29, just depends on conditions i suppose. that's with using cruise & a/c every time i drive it. so i don't think that's too bad

well, not sure, all I know is that I only gained almost 4000 miles for the whole year. Not much gas spent I guess. I have 5 cars total.

ha ha ha, or a lighter foot on the accelerator biggrin.gif

depends on how i drive,

1 - balls to the wall keeping the turbo spooling, 17mpg, grin factor +200, so who cares about MPG
2 - sat in traffic, using it on the motorway for work, sticking to the 70mph speed limit, change gear at 3000 rev's in 1st to 4th, about 25 - 28, grin factor -10, bordom factor -200, licence not getting any more points or a speeding ban, +20 value

We should all be proud to get close to 25-35 MPG...slowing down global warming. We need E85 fuel out here fast! I will get my car adjusted to run on that fuel in a heartbeat! I heard the gas mileage is 30% less, but the environment is what counts.

I do a lot of city driving, and a little highway, but as we Washingtonians know... Highway driving IS city driving. Stop. Go. Stop. Go. I get between 28-30MPG

last time i calculated it was about 35+mpg. i drive about 45miles round trip to work everyday, and about 40 of those are on the highway. plus the ST and 5speed. not bad for a car with over 150k miles.

I wrang 32 MPG once out of our 99 right after we got it. Then I learned how hard to need to push it to just get into NJ traffic.

I just filled up the tank in the car after the swap today and without issues causing gas loss. Average of 25 mpg with mostly city driving, and a lot of semi-spirited sprints.

in the winter time i average about 34 mpg

right now i'm getting about 36 mpg

37 mpg was my best

all 87 octane, one advantage of having a slow, underpowered 1.8 st

you guys should try a fuel/oil additive called MYSTERY OIL. i add about 1/2 a quart to my oil whenever changed, and maybe a 1/4 quart or more to my gas whenever i fill up. it cleans, reconditions, and keeps your engine running great.
