My advice is don't buy something like that until youve heard it. Sometimes it looks cool and it has enough power but it sounds like crap! Its all a mater of taste and I would recomend hearing something before buying. Obviously thats not always posible. But thats just my .02.

From what it looks like you want to spend about $350 shipped (for that much you can get something way better)
One thing that I've learned is that you dont want to buy no name amps, and that you should never cheap out on amps. I think the following will be a pretty good beginners system SUB http://www.cardomain.com/item/POWFUBAR10W AMP http://www.cardomain.com/item/JBLCS3001 Wiring Just get some 5ga amp wiring from walmart Then buy a $29 cap from ebay (there isn't much difference between cheap and pricy caps) Build the box ur self, first of all it will cost around $30 (not carpeted), but it will be way better then the once from a shop. Dont forget to build it to SUBwoofer specs (usually comes in the SUB manual, if not, call up the company and ask them to send you the specs for the best box) Tune that baby to 50-60HZ and deff make it ported. I've heard this sub in one of my friends friend car and it sounded way more powerful then my W6v2 which made me sad cuz I spend 499$ on that sub (but I am fine with it anyway because I know that my sub sounds better = SQ, instead of alot of bass = SPL) PS: Do not buy from ebay, buy from sounddomain.com (dont forget about 105% lowest price policy) so what you do is find the model # of whatever you want to buy. Go to www.froogle.com and search for that model number, then when u find a cheaper price go to sounddomain and give them a link to the web that you found. 1/3 times they will lower to price significantly. For example MbQuart Premium 6 1/2" cost $499 dollars from their website, I went to froogle and found a coupe of sites that sell them for $290, send the quote to sounddomain and they lowered the price t o $285 which is almost half lower. Another thing that you should do before you buy anything is check out your local forums and car chillin places because you can sometimes find really cheap deals on used stuff that people dont want. If I were you I'd go around and see if anyone has JBL BP1200.1 amp because its one of the best and used street price goes from $150 to $200 and you'll never regret buying it (+ u will never need to upgrade in the future because that amp is just amazing and powerful). Oh here's one more thing, do not buy SONY, Kenwood, Pioneer because they are just not close to being as good us Polk, Mbquart, JBL, JL, Eclipse, Infinity. just my .02 cents -------------------- <<AKA THA RUSSIAN>>

I have hear those subs in person..... They suck and are ungodly cheap. I have some AW1206T subs and they hit HARD but are more expensive. And hitting HARD is only cool for about 10 mins

keep shopping on the amp, ive heard some of those solo-barics, and they are definately more of a hard hitting sub. They can sound really good if powered correctly.

most boxes that are sold from any manufacturer are poor quality. made out or (i think)5/8 low density fiberboard, which breaks easy, isnt as strong and is obviously less dense...hen they charge a hell of a lot just because they made it. you cna go to home depot and get a 4x8 sheet of 3/4in MDF for around $20!!then get some carpet for another 20 or so.....search the net for speaker box calculators to get the right cubic foot box...use those measurements. screw it all together wih 2in wood screws(rememebr to SEAL it while doing this)personally on the box I had I sealed it with fiber glass and resin. SO to su m it up....dont buy a box, make one! cheaper, stonger, you can make it what ever shape you want....
oh yeah I had leftover MDF too and i built a box for 2 12in JL wo's...maybe you could make one for someone else and make some money off of it -------------------- Coming in 2010 full paintjob - new wheels - modified body - new interior - engine build- marriage |

so then i should buy the sub itself (without the box) and make the box myself? that way i can spend more money on an amp. thx. but, im not much of a good builder......is it easy to make them? and is a sealed box better than a vented or ported one?

For a beginner making a box, sealed is the way you want to go. And you dont have to be much of a "builder" to make a sub box. Its a box afterall. Just be precise and measure everything, make sure to seal it like big said.
There are so many amps out there you really shouldnt cheap out on one. This is where you will get the best output and difference, is within your amp. If you dont have enough money for a good amp, then save up more. This is a sound system, and you dont want to cheap out, cuz you will just end up spending more money in the long run, be patient. Keep shopping for a good amp. This post has been edited by JFrost9: Jul 1, 2006 - 2:07 PM -------------------- ![]() I am now a part of the ihavemorethen16gc club! |
