Yeah well times are changing. i'm looking to buy a used car under 10k. i just was wondering what you guys think of a 1995-1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST, GSX (comes in hatchback, and convert) i was thinking from a performance stand-point that they have much better structure than my ST will ever have + i dont feel like swapping a 3S.

--------------------
the 1/4 doesnt have patience for a ST.... so we make them ST-T's so atleast we'll sound good going slow.

there not bad, motors can crap out on ya if modded (crankwalk and what not) look into a eclise spyder (conv) there pretty nice. can also look into a talon there pretty much the exact same thing sept cheaper what kinda things are you looking for in a car, obviously some power but like style, and size.

deff look into a mid to late 90's wrx, there not that costly and the 2 doors look sweet in my opinion.

I think those cars are great......if you are a mechanic.
A friend of mine bought a GS and his car broke down more often then him driving it. Finally sold it and bought a BMW.

For under 10K, I would say buy a luxury car if you can or something that is light on the gas and dependable..........(civic).

edit: deff look into a mid to late 90's wrx <---i believe hes refering to the Legacy RS 2.5

if fixed up clean and well boosted, its one heck of car I think, or swap a 22b under the hood and waste most every other car on the road.

crankwalk. & that is all i have to say.

my ex has a gst, and it crapped out on him.. 5 or 6 times in the time we were together (4 months), and probably spent close to $6k in repairs.

DSM's are a whole subculture you don't want to get into. I rank them slightly below Civics.

My buddy had a 95 GS that was ok, and his parents now have a 96 GS-T spyder... They are good cars *IF* the previous owners took care of them and the weren't driven hard (a very hard find, imo)...

thats awesome.
your right, the eclipse is a GREAT base to make a nice fast ride. lots of aftermarket, tons of choices...
as long as your not planning on it being your daily driver, i'd say it'd be hella fun.

The eclipse looks nice always wanted a gsx or gst but I've been told by many MANY car freak friends that the reliability is bad on it....yep if you plan on getting one make sure you have a daily driver first.... wink.gif

AHAHAHAHA i love it!

the newer GSt and GSX have the crap motors but better compression ratios and exhaust manifolds. so if you get the newer one find a 1st gen 4g63t motor use the crank, rods, block from it. with the pistons from the 2nd gen (will take custom work). then use the 2nd gen mani. and get a big 16g with fuel upgrades and a front mount. Of course the obvious of a metal HG, ARP head studs, Centerforce DF clutch, new t-belt, tensioner, and water pump.

other than that i think your set wink.gif

oh and make sure u buy that biiiig toolset at sears with the 20 some drawers or whatever

now that I see this I remember, there is a eclipse (AWD, leather, turbo from factory ) being sold by the shop where I go. IDK the price but I know the previus owner got tired of fixing the car up and sold it for nothing ( non running ) to the owner's son, now they fixed it up at the shop and they are trying to get a new customer. laugh.gif

the 4g63 powered dsm's can have alot of go-fast for relatively cheap. the stock t25 is a little small once you start modding, avoid the 420A if you want to make big FI power. interestingly enough....the 3rd gen eclipse (turd gen tongue.gif) 4g64 block mated with an evo 8 or 9 head can make some stupid BIG numbers, a guy i talk to in cali was putting down about 350whp at 10PSI when he was breaking the motor in. now hes up around 25psi and is at 450-500whp! thats a little too much for fwd imo, but still impressive from a 2.4L.

Trust me i was gonna buy the gsx but he said i would be wasting my money cuz it was gonna give me hell in a coulple of monthes...true freinds right there actually telling me not to buy there car

also just turbo your 7a and you will have close hp numbers

I've been researching an eclipse, and I think it wouldn't be half bad, if you were to keep up with regular maintenance, and do something about the crankwalk.

A lot of these people who bitch about crankwalk, also beat the ever living **** out of these cars. It's coming from mostly younger kids who wind up pushing like 9000psi and wonder why the thing broke. Granted, it is a manufacturing defect, I believe it only affected certain years and it doesn't happen with every single eclipse out there.

I'd try to get a later model eclipse GSX / GS-T (96+) and make damn sure the crank & sensors were alright, before I started doing anything serious.. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
