alright. I;m gonna make my supra style tails, BUT i need supplies. I haven't found anyplace htat has any 3-4in LED assemlies that i like
http://www.truckntow.com/p-10930-bulls-eye...-w-pigtail.aspx
these are the closest i have found.
i am looking for bulls eye action for the signals. reverse lights i am looking fro a red ring around a white center......and i want all the bulbs to be in circles not LINES...try to keep em cheap but good...as usual if anyone has any cool ideas about what to use lemme hear em

oh and another thing..i read the how-to about making your own clears http://www.6gc.net/index.php?action=howto&itu=2...has anyone tried this with clear plexi?? I was planning on getting some from a hardware store around here and substituting that for the lighting material. and maybe painting the inside of the lene a kandy red so it is still semi-transparent, then get some 3000 and scuff/buf the outside of the light

FEEDBACK

was just thinking about trying to make clear tails with plexiglass. would probably need to bend it a bit, not too sure how easy that is to do.

as for led fabrications, these sites should have a few, though i'm not sure id it's what you're looking for.
autolumination.com
superbrightleds.com

edit: wow i really should do a quick google before i post about not knowing anything
from here:
http://www.instructables.com/id/EKXYTRWUBEEP286GMB/

it looks do-able.

I'm assuming that, depending on several factors (cost, time, distance, etc), you may wind up selling these when/if completed? You know i'd be right up on the list depending on cost (I do understand that they'd probably be a bit more than your usual tails!)!!

Here you go for some ideas mate, made myself using the backing of some standard lenses, filler, pcb board, homemade circuit, leds, clear perspex.

Put perspex in an oven at 140 degrees c for about 20minutes and it will be soft enough to bend easily. Make sure its perspex though as I had polycarbonate and that needs heating slowly overnight before it will bend otherwise it just bubbles internally.

And if I were you, I wouldn't scuff the outside of the plastic as you said, I tried it and it will just end up looking white, even if you paint the inside red.

what if i just painted the inside red? I'm not worried about when the lights are on but when they are off i don't want them clear....i want to them to look like the COULD be stock until i put on the brakes or something

Best would be to try it on an offcut of perspex then mate. See if you like it then just do it to 1 light and see if you still like it, then do it to the other.

Personally I didn't like it, and thought mine looked better being clear, but its upto you at the end of the day dude.

Get em sorted and lets have a look.

No kit mate, All made by my own fair hands.

Created the circuit board myself and etched the pcb board myself.
it took me a while to do and I'm still perfecting it when I get the chance.

Damn Vside. Those taillights are the best looking aftermarkets I've ever seen for our celicas. You could make a lot of profit making those if you are up to it. It would give you a good chance to perfect your skills. LoL.

unfortunately the finish ain't good enough (for me anyway) to justify selling them.
I'll keep playing with mine and when I am seriously happy with them and I feel that i could knock some out fairly quickly then I might consider selling some.

No idea how much postage would be to the US though.

heres another pic to whet your appetites (yes that is how you spell whet in this context before someone has a go!)

vside what did you use to make the black "dividers" for the lights? Is that just a filler or black silicone? Ive got a lil project in the works and im curious how you got such good lines on all that.

but then mine would look stupid without any lights on.

another of my reasons for not selling them is getting hold of 'donor' lights to split apart, and whether they will pass an MOT or not. I may end up having to get you guys to post me your old lights back once you have received the new ones, which you won't want to do if you've forked out for a $300 set of jdm's.
Anyway that would be upto you lot, if someone didn't send me their old ones and I couldn't get hold of anymore then you'd be spoiling it for everyone cos I'd have to stop.

I've had an idea to make LED Circle taillights almost exactly like those! How you made them is really close to how I plan to make them too, but my only problem is the whole circuit board for the LEDs. Are there any I can get pre-made here in the US? I've seen some LED circle Semi truck replacement taillights but they are ugly, can you PM me some more pics of yours both during the day and at night? Thanks!

Well the way I've done them, I can't see why it couldn't be adapted to something similar for the coupe.

and michelle95celica, These have been in the making for over a year (on and off when i've had time!) so even the guys who built the bugatti veyron have copied from me haha!!

LOL I just went to a cruise in this last saturday night, there was a Lotus Elise there, and I noticed when it left, it had four identically sized LED circles for the taillights...funny thing is, Lotus uses many Toyota Parts, I'm wondering if they can be adapted? There is a Lotus factory here in Michigan, I'm going to contact them to see if this can be done. I may have the solution to an easy conversion....and for the clear lense, plexiglass would work good....

This saturday I'll talk to the owner of the Elise and get some pics too....

ok, if someone is bored then can you find out if the us paint codes are the same as the japan/uk ones?

i asume that you'd all want the insides painting to match your cars? (if I did them that is!)

I love the way your tails look vside! I might be interested, depending on price, if you started making them. but I think it might be better if instead of matching to our paint color, just leave the inside black like it is on your car.. I think that'd look good on any color! but I wanna see what b1gr3d comes up with before I decide to buy any taillights. tongue.gif

Bump. Yea, lets have a how-to (please). And if someone fancies doing an electronics kit (leds, circuit boards, etc) to get things started for those that want to recreate this mod, that would be great.

QUOTE(b1gr3d @ Jul 13, 2006 - 3:48 AM)

i want all the bulbs to be in circles not LINES...try to keep em cheap but good...as usual if anyone has any cool ideas about what to use lemme hear em

I was thinking of a stylised arrow, this kinda shape (just looking at the shape of the arrow, not the construction - think of it wrapping around the corners a little).

oh and another thing..i read the how-to about making your own clears http://www.6gc.net/index.php?action=howto&itu=2...has anyone tried this with clear plexi?? I was planning on getting some from a hardware store around here and substituting that for the lighting material. and maybe painting the inside of the lene a kandy red so it is still semi-transparent, then get some 3000 and scuff/buf the outside of the light

I was thinking similar, but leaving them crystal clear. I was also thinking about trying to get hold of some diamond pattern mirror plastic like BMW and Mazda currently use in their 3D tail lights. Hopefully our local Hobbycraft store will sell it by the sheet.

Does anyone do perspex taillight covers protectors/guards) for the 6g celica? I assume not as I can't be the first to think about using that to assist with taillight mods.

the best place that I've found its from a guy called CECE on ebay, he ships fast and like in 2-3 days and they are in the mailbox, they are 100% American and of great quality, I already have over 7 months with my LEDs with constant use every day and non have burnt, make sure you dont order exatcly the ammount you need, order at leat 5 more, because sometimes i've gotten around 3-4 leds that dont work, hope this helps

--------------------

waiting for LEDs for next project
WOW recieved the LEDs, just tested a set up on a breadboard and I can barely see anything lol. I think I'm closer to being blind !!

Just for an update, I ain't done anything with my lights yet, but I am hoping to move house soon and I am definitely having a garage this time so I will then be able to make more of a mess without the ball and chain shouting at me wink.gif

Anyway, not forgotten about you guys, as I have them all seperated I will also try to remember to take some assembly pics and write a little howto for ya (don't wanna make it too detailed as its good being the only one with em in the world bwah hahahaha

Anyway, something will appear this year guys. stay tuned.

Id be more than willing to send a set of USDM stock tails to toy around with if you decide to make them to sell. Id love a set. Keep up the work, enjoy having a garage.
