I have pretty much decided to buy a new Tacoma and build a killer rear wheel drive project car so I am going to sell my 6gc.

Car runs great. Its very fast - I estimate about 260whp at 16psi with lightening fast spool. I am confident that with race gas or water injection, this is a 300whp car at 19psi (unlike the stock turbo - the GT28RS stays in its efficiency zone all the way up past 25psi!). As it sits, it would be a low 13 second car with a good driver and better tires. Please keep in mind that although I have added a slightly larger turbo (GT28RS) and other basic performance upgrades, the engine is unopened and it retains the stock AFM and ECU which greatly improves reliability. I run 12psi daily and turn it up to 16psi about once or twice a week for spirited runs.

It is also tastefully modified. All mods are in my profile and nearly all of them were professionally installed.

The only negatives worth mentioning are

(1) the passenger side seat has a few scratches in the leather on the top of the seat - no rips (you can see this in the picture in my profile).
(2) The paint on the front bumper has flaked off in a few spots less than the size of a pea.
(3) a few door dings in the passenger side door and one in the passenger side A-pillar that you have to look to find. You can't see them from 5 feet away but they are noticable if you look down the profile of the car.

I have about $26k invested in the car but I got 2.5 good years out of her and I want to sell it in top condition. I am asking $14,500 or B/O. I will entertain REALISTIC offers. It will be going on Autotrader and other boards within the next 10 days however since I have a couple thousand posts here, I am placing the ad on 6gc first.

The convertible boot and the JDM dealer option sideskirts (not installed) are available for additional amounts. I will not be selling these seperate unless the buyer of the car doesn't want them.

Here is a recent picture:

Here is a thread showing the custom 3" mandrel bent stainless steel exhaust and the polyurethane motor mounts. You can also see the downpipe and other parts of the turbo kit.

Exhaust Thread

Sean:

After tasting nice power with this project, my power craving has grown bigger. If this car were rear wheel drive, I would probably upgrade further to quench my desires. However, its not and upgrading the engine further and jeopardizing Toyota-like reliability when I would just spin the tires more anyway doesn't make sense.

One thing I can tell you is that all of the bugs have been worked out which is a pain for most swap owners. I just hope she goes to someone who can appreciate all the hard work and money invested.

- Jay

I would like to point out a few of the things about the car that make it even more appealing:

1. I have a converted E-153 tranny from the MR2 Turbo with all the correct shift linkage and axel parts. The tranny has no grinds, shifts perfect and is in great condition. This tranny is good to 400+whp so you will never have to worry about it. In my opinion, its the only safe way to reliable power. While others haven't had problems with the stock GT tranny, I can tell you that I have read about at least 10 GT trannies breaking with the 3s swap. (I don't want this to be a thread about whether the GT tranny is good enough for the swap. The fact remains that the MR2T tranny is better).

2. The exhaust is full stainless so you will never have to worry about any part of rusting out due to salt on the roads.

3. I have a brand new Greddy Blow Off valve that has been recirculated for better response, no backfires, and lessening of the overly rich condition of the stock ECU on the 3S.

4. The convertible top and all electronics work flawlessly.

5. A/C and cruise are operational - unlike many swaps.

6. I have ordered an Apexi Active Tail Silencer which "should" greatly reduce the exhaust drone which occurs with all swaps having 3" straight through exhaust piping (no cats). Of course, the ATS opens up when you get on it so it will be louder under WOT.

7. The tires are about 90% thread left.

Also, the engine has approximately 55,000-65,000 miles. (24,000 since installed in my car)

More info:

1. Top has no leaks

2. I understand that Toyota changed the convertible top motors in 1998 because the older ones had problems. Mine works great.

3. New plugs as of 7/23/06.

4. All new ignition components November 05

5. burns no oil

I cant believe Jay is selling his car.........you have to stick around. all these big project cars that everyone looks up to, and their owners are selling them. Its really depressing. Nik, Romas, and Jay to name a few......who next? Art? Jeff? Chris?

By the way, if people do not want things like the strut bar, rear extensions, or other "easy" bolt on parts that are readily marketable on here or ebay, I would take them off and lower the price. I am not selling any of these things seperate until the car sells.

ALSO, TO RESTATE, I AM WILLING TO CONSIDER REASONABLE OFFERS

I would even consider trading for a relatively unmodified celica + cash that I could trade in on the Tacoma.

J's a really good guy, and takes immaculate care of his vehicles. i got the pleasure of seeing this swapped vert at the starved rock meet, before he dumped all the money in to it.

even then, it was a sight to behold, it really is a well done, complete, and comprehensive swapped 6th gen.

good luck selling it, best wishes to you and your family too if you wind up not coming around as much.

someone buy this car. do it. now.

Will do. I will probably lurk here and will definitely keep you guys informed on my new project. Its either going to be a V6 MKII MR2 or a S2000 with an LS2 swap.

Information on the turbo kit:

Turbo is from the newer ball bearing series from Garrett. They are widely regarded as MUCH more durable than a typical journal bearing set-up due to thrust bearing issues. In addition, the transient time to full boost is improved over a traditional turbo charger. On the other hand, it is a myth that they spool much faster. Spool is a function of many issues but the type of bearings is not a significant factor.

Nevertheless, the GT28RS is the spool CHAMP for unmodified (stock VE) 3sgte engines. This turbo has been dynoed to hit 200 ft/lbs of torque at 2870 R.P.Ms on a BPU modified 3s. That is phenomenal. As a point of reference the stock (and much less powerful ct-26) typically hits 200 ft/lbs at about 3000 R.P.M.s or slightly above. This turbo gives you 50% more power and spools quicker. Those who have done any significant amount of research into turbo charging realizes how that last sentence makes the GT28RS a VERY unique animal.

The water lines are hard silver soldered and the manifold adapter is offset allowing me to retain the stock heatshield. This is a huge plus for engine bay heat which is generally not desired for performance or longevity reasons.

Here is a thread that I made right after switching from the stock turbo to the GT28RS. I admit that I have somewhat gotten used to the turbo but the torque still sets me back in my seat.

Careful, you might convince yourself to keep it... I know for a fact that had I not just bought a house 5 months ago and already had a 3S swap in the works I'd be buying your Celica.

I am surprised this isn't sold yet. It's pretty much the ultimate 6th gen convertible daily driver... not to mention the sweet price. I see stock 98 and 99 celicas going for 14.5k. This is one hell of a deal.

Why go with a tacoma? For the price difference between the TRD Tacoma and the TRD Tundra ( like 600 bucks), I thought everyone would choose the Tundra...it's what my old man did.

Tacoma looks better IMO and gets better milage. However, you are right that a Tundra would be more practical.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

status unchanged. The reason this is taking a little longer than expected is actually my fault and not the buyers. If for some reason the sale doesn't go through, I will PM those that have expressed interest and also post here. Thanks for checking.
