well i've always wanted to be on the SWAT team, but from my understanding you have to be on the police or served in the military for 2 years? Just wanted to know what you guys knew about this because im seriously considering changing occupations. Bein a manager at radioshack is fun, but being on the SWAT team is something i've dreamed about as a kid. So, help my dreams come true! lol

i would be VERY surprised if you can go straight to the S.W.A.T. i'm almost certain that you have to have a certain level of experience. and to become a police officer, you need to go through the academy, etc. it's not somethin you can just jump into.

You should change your title to "SWAT" instead of "SWAP".

when I got out of the military and applied for SWAT they told me that I have to serve on the regular force before I can request SWAT. Most precincts require 4 years on the force before you can even be considered for SWAT. Thats just my experience so far. One was LAPD and the other was Boston PD. I will ask the guys around here and get some more info for you. One of the former Marines out here is the Police Chief and he just happens to be a close friend of the family. If you have any questions I can ask him for you guys. biggrin.gif

yea SWAT is basically your NAVY SEALS of police. You need to qualify for it by doing numerous things while in the regular police force, i.e. various medals and promotions. My cousin is a state trooper in Miami so i can give him a call and see what he says...26 and already a leutenant, hes crazy.

Also you can not get jumpy...my da actually had swat come down on him...he was painting a building and tripped an alarm..it was also late at night and he wlk out side to his van got out a caulk gun and walk back inside to do his job.my dad did not see them in the distance as they were watching him..about10 minutes later my dad see a shadow cross across the wall looks down the way and see a man in a mask with a shotgun right at his head and another rigth behind with a pistol on him.
And all my dad did was stand up and say Dont shoot man calmly then they saw that it was a cualk gun and every thing was ok...these guys are trained......... This all happend when they thought they knew he had a gun.they thought he saw them and and was preparing for a for a gun fight...i had dreams of being on swat also.i had even got to ride with them in there swat personell carrier and watch them ass they raided mock situations..but after the issue with my dad i seriusly rethought about it and decided not to go this route becuase it only take a jumpy finger or a slight fear for yourlife before instinct pulls the trigger to protect you..i honestly think i could do it but do not want to take the chance of killing someone..its not like the movies where its 1 shot to the head or two to the center mass..they will unload a clip in you if you shoot at them.and will use a wall of bullits to trap you in a corner while they call somthing like slicing the pie..its not an easy job and it can really work on your brain once you hurt sombody nomatter if they were dangerous or God forbid not dangerous..,,
So think long and hard on a decision such as this.. sorry for such along post but i think there is a common misconception that its 1 shot 1 kill video game movie stuff.

ya i know its not like the videos (as much fun as that would be) but its something I've always wanted to do. I've been shot in my leg while being robbed so I know what its like to have a gun pulled on me and I do realise that you risk your life everytime your called. I dont wanna be 'the hero', I want to be part of a team that makes a difference. I would join the marines or the army but I dont really want to be away from 'home' for too long, ex. going to Iraq, while I wouldnt mind fighting, I just dont want to be gone from home and everything I 'have' for 5,6,7 months at a time.
