i'm in the market for new rims, and i'm debating on a wheel/tire bundle from edgeracing.com - w/ a 18by8 rim it's giving me the selection of 215/40/R18 tires ... arent those tires too skinny for 18 by 8's!? wouldnt i need something like 225/40/R18's .... whats the freakin deal here???

currently riding on 215/35/18 i'm practically riding on rims right now but i'm upgrading to 215/40/18 tires atleast next summer other than feeling more bumps and the weight of the rims i'm good i'm not sure about the clearance on 225/40/18's celicazr is there any rubbing at all in regards to your car.

i thougt the first numbers.... i.e 215, or 225 regarded to the width of the tire - the second numbers ie 35, 40, 45 refer to the height of the tire. can sum1 clear me up on this?

QUOTE(celi_gt_racer @ Aug 10, 2006 - 11:50 PM) i thougt the first numbers.... i.e 215, or 225 regarded to the width of the tire - the second numbers ie 35, 40, 45 refer to the height of the tire. can sum1 clear me up on this? the first number is the section width in millimeters, and the second number is the aspect ratio. so on a 215/35 tire the sidewall height is .35x215=75.25mm, 215/40 is .4x215=86mm, 225/40 is .4x225=90mm, and so the sidewall height (and in effect the overall diameter of the tire) is a function of the section width AND the aspect ratio and of course the wheel diameter. -------------------- ![]() I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside. |
