for some reason my car is grinding on third when your exiting the highway and down shift to third or if your deccelerating and then down shift to third @ about 30mph...i want to hear your opinions before i start taking anything apart....my guess is the gear box but then again it can be the trans....

thanks in advance..

gearbox is a nickname for the trans. mine does it too, just worn out transmission. 3rd is typically the first to go **** house. what might help is matching the revs better, taking your time going into gear, and of course draining the tranny oil and putting in new stuff like 75w-90

don't know much about the trans/gear box....i just got a new clutch put in about a month or two ago and got new tranny oil too...so i guess it's just the tranny....oh well...i'll see how long it takes before i need to swap it...thanks celicast3sgte

sounds like the 3rd gear synchronizer may be on its way out, revmatching will help some, however the only way to fix the problem is to get the trans rebuilt with new synchronizers.

I had the exact same problem even though I was running brand new full synthetic mobil 1 oil. Then I switched to Pennzoil syncromesh transmission oil and the problem totally disappeared! You gotta give that a try first before spending a ton of money or time on your trans!!! Good luck....
