Title says it all, all I have is my original starter, cleaned up. I'd like to have it reinstalled by this winter. Thanks for looking.

What is wrong with it?
Is it the coils? Brushes? Contacts? What do you want replaced? This post has been edited by alltracman78: Aug 14, 2006 - 8:55 PM -------------------- ![]() |

QUOTE(alltracman78 @ Aug 14, 2006 - 9:55 PM) [snapback]469054[/snapback] What is wrong with it? Is it the coils? Brushes? Contacts? What do you want replaced? You seem like the guy I am looking for. I have no idea what's wrong with it. Maybe you could diagnose it for me? All I know that it was locked up (seized) bad enough that my car would not start even while tapping the housing. I would like a complete rebuild so I never have to worry about it again. As a quick fix, I bought an untouched oem starter from eBay for $50 shipped, and now that one is giving me problems. -------------------- '92 Grey Mitsubishi 3000GT SL - Sold

I figured they were all non-oem, and I like oem parts. What's in your car?

im still on my oem starter.... but oem or not, really dosnt matter that much for that type of stuff. they take the oem ones and just replace the parts that burned out and make them good as new.
i have a spare 3sgte starter, but i doubt that it would work for you. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

Thanks very much for the advice. I'm getting a nice tuneup in 3,000 miles, I'll find a $100 starter like the one you mentioned and have it installed then.

my starter was literally ripped open when i first bought my wrecked car.
since 6gc's are so rare in my city, i used a 2000 solara starter instead. they share the same connectors but the connectors were lower on the solara. got it for $60 from a wrecker yard. never had any problems starting in -40 degree weather. -------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

I don't know if I will be able to do it right now [time is VERY constrained], but if I do, all I'll need is $$ for parts and shipping.
MAYBE what we will do is you ship it out to me and I'll take a look at it, and we can go from there. I need to think about it, only because I'm leary of taking on any commitments, no matter how small, at this time. If I can't fix it, and you want it back, I will of course need the $$ to ship it back. Manny [Presure2], Jeff [97 ST w/RC swap], and Dustin [blue 97? GT] all know me pretty good. I'm also a mod over on www.celicatech.com if you want any references beforehand. Personally, I wouldn't touch an aftermarket starter. Lifetime warrenty or not. I have an Autocrap starter on my truck [Toyota]. With a lifetime warrenty. I've already replaced it 2x in a year and a half, and it's giving me problems again..... You are smart in sticking with OEM stuff. -------------------- ![]() |

Or a bearing? Or the brushes? They almost NEVER rebuilt AT the dealers anyways. I have never seen it done at all, but I havn't been to every dealer in the states, so I can't say. They just replace the whole thing and send the old back as a core. -------------------- ![]() |

You guys know the part # for contacts? Worth a shot IMO. The starter gear does not seem seized, it still moves freely in one direction.

Your dealer might still do rebuilds, I havn't been there. I wasn't saying they DON'T change the contacts, but that is not all they do in a complete rebuild. Now if just your contacts were bad [which is the case the majority of the time], they very well might have just replaced them. However, that is NOT a rebuilt starter. It is a starter with the contacts replaced. -------------------- ![]() |
