Let me first thank you for taking a look.

Anyways, a co-worker of mine notice me checking out this site and we got to talking about cars and such. He has an 03' Kia Rio (it gets better) with a 1.6L motor. He has asked me if there was a way to get better performance ie. turbo or supercharging. I told him I would look into it and came up with very little. What I'm asking this forum is if anyone has heard of something that would apply to my friends perdicament, please share the wealth. Links are very welcome. Thank you.

adding either will give you more HP

is he looking to spend alot on it?

a combination of I/H/E could free up the engine adding better perfomance. Unless the engine is tuned (ex. 2GRFE)

i dont know and doubt if these cars have any aftermarket support

a turbo or supercharger project would probably cost more than the car(dead serious on that)

I/H/E would be a waste of money

honestly he should save money and buy something thats a little more mod friendly

sorry i know thats not what you wanna hear but its the truth...there are just some cars that will get almost no gains from mods

for example the Z

i have seen people drop about 2k in N/A mods and gained probably no more than 20rwhp..not worth it imo

I, personally, am not a fan of NO2 so I'm not so knowledgeable here. Would it be nessesary to reinforce the engine in some way to handle a 50 shot?

depending on mileage and how well the motor was taken car of you probably wounldnt need to reinforce the motor.....but be aware it will eventually blow up on you or wear out the motor, as with all F/I

with a 50shot, it shouldnt do too much harm to the engine, especially since it is a low compression engine that is barely making power as it is.

it will probably wear out your wallet pretty fast tho, its hard not to use it when you have it installed. thats why i took the nitrous off of my WRX

maybe sidestepping on this but thoes cars are very cheap, make sure the tranny, axels, and other parts can hold the force of more then 80hp I would not doubt at all that there made just barily to spec to save construction costs, building up the motor may (well probably will) just leave you with a huge mess of other problems.

seriously, man, a kia rio?

as much as i hate to say it (i try to be nice), there isn't anything you can do for that car. even if you could find a way to add power, even as little as 50-75, the car isn't going to handle it.

the trans and axles won't for sure. because there is little to no aftermarket support for that car, as well as a lack of a higher-powered or performance oriented sibling (a source for an engine swap, beefier drivetrain and susp parts, etc.), it's going to be impossible to do it without tripling his investment on it.

unless he wants to reinvent the whole car with custom drivetrain, suspension, engine managment, and whatnot...he should just live with it or buy something else.

the truth might hurt, but not as much as attempting to eek a few ponies out of a kia rio.

oh know I completely agree with you on this one uberschall. If I ever owned a Rio (perish the thought) I would just suck it up until I could afford something better later on. I'm not the one planning this one, I am purely the messanger on this matter.
