ok I wanna do some more sound upgrades for my car. I already have the subs in the trunk but I wanted to do the 8 inch sub upgrade and I wanted to know what brand everyone uses. Also did anyone put them in the rear panels? And pics would be nice. Thanks in advance everyone.

JL Audio 8w0's:
I'm not a sub expert, but I do like clean, tight bass that hits hard. If you've got a tight spacewise application (front doors, for example, these WILL fit, ~4" mounting depth), these are great. I reused one from my old car in a Q Logic box, .35 cu. ft., sealed and poly-filled. ![]() If you have more space, then go with the 8w3v2, definitely. $90 was a little steep for my 8w0, otoh, it's taken the beating from a 150w amp for over a year and is still sounding good. JL Audio underrates their gear; they take the power the sub can sustain for 8 hours constant without breaking, then take half that and round down to the nearest 25. So that's a little conservative. I've used MTX thunder4500s before my 8w0's and I prefer the bass from the 8w0's because the thunders were boomy, but it's really just preference. -------------------- |

oh, one other thing.
JL Audio is only available through dealers. It sucks. So you have to either buy used on ebay or somesuch place or go to a local dealer. There's a locater on their site: www.jlaudio.com -------------------- |

There's a locater on their site: www.jlaudio.com Dealers = ridiculous mark up, but a warranty if installed by a dealer. Online = cheaper possible warranty from where you buy it, you might and you might not get it. Ive got some links at home to a place that offers a warranty through them for JLs |

i was gonna go with 2 image dynamics ID8D2 V.3 8" subs where the stock rear speakers were... heard a lot of good stuff about ID products...
i ended up going with some elemental designs eu700s cause they had a nice deal going on... i dunno what pics are worth to show since they are in the stock speaker location this is my first upgraded sound system and i think it sounds pretty damn good... it's not overly powerful and doesn't make my car seem like it's about to fall apart... but then again.. i have nothing to compare it to... the only problem is that not many places sell ID stuff... and a lot of online places that do are not licensed distributors... eD has nice warranty (3yr) and u can only buy online from their site This post has been edited by elvasoshexai: Sep 1, 2006 - 12:39 AM -------------------- |

I had two ID10s at one point and loved them. Now I run a single 8" Dayton Quatro in a sealed .2 ft^3 enclosure and I really like it. ![]() -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

Im a big fan of alpine, but it doesnt matter what you get, make sure that the DB sensitivity is high, and its dual voice coil. Those are two big factors that i consider when purchasing my speakers.

If you want to replicate the stock 8 speaker setup, you can put them in the doors by simply removing the stock 7" speakers (which have a metal ring that spaces them out to 8"). You will have to do a bit of dremeling to make the hole through the plastic bracket and door about 1/4" bigger, and you are limited to almost exactly 4" for depth due to your window glass.
However, you were probably referring to the rear location, which i haven't tried. ![]() -------------------- |

One other thing. JL Audio also makes a 6.5" sub: the 6w0, which is probably a drop-in for the rear locations.
