Why can't you use the ST205 brakes? I've seen them on ST185, ST165s, Camrys, and a few other Toyota vehicles without Super Strut suspension setups.

ive heard of the 7th gen bigbrake working, but ive never seen it done.

Willwood makes a 6gc big brake kit. A member has it, I dont remember his name. Ill poke around, and see if I can find him.

edit: No user name, but got a picture.

WOW i really hope we can find out where those brakes are at (wilowood) those are REALLY sexy

those brakes belong to me. the setup is:

-6 piston calipers (wilwood dynalite)
-13 inch 2 piece directional rotors (drilled and slotted)
-stainless steel lines
-mounting brackets
-wilwood pads

wilwood does not make this kit, i had it custom made, its a complete bolt on with no mods other than removing the dust sheild.

gimme a pm if you'll like one made it'll cost approx $2400.00

Wow dude $2400,,,is that for just the front??? I had mine custom made too. Wilwood 4 piston calipers, stainless steel lines, 13" rotors, slotted and cross drilled. I think I paid $1500 shipped. I have the rear on order but I'm selling my car, those were $1900.

I absolutely needed them. I few times I didn't stop and almost rear ended someone. It's night and day. I wouldn't mind donating my setup if I had some security that I would get my parts back.

That would be great man... i dont have ABS so if i hard brake my car SLIDES reallly bad. And thats why i've been kind of scared to do i swap because with that extra power i know it would be hell to stop! I thought you had AWD on your car, or i know that you had a thread looking for parts.

Punch said he knows a guy that would make the setup for us if he had a donor set. The only thing he needs is one of my brackets and one of my rotors. The calipers are wilwood and I think universal for my size rotor. So he'd have to get the dimensions of my rotor and bracket. The company that made mine is shady as hell. They actually have $1000 of mine right now. No AWD here but I would want it if I kept my car. I have a ton of friends in Tampa so if punch's friend can get the specs over a weekend I'm sure we could work this at some point.

That would be great man.... if i went with wilowood it would be dumb to do the GT disc conversion, cause i could just buy ST front brakes and GT back. Will it be the entire assembly or just caliper and rotor?

The entire assembly includes stainless steel brake line, rotor, cailper and pads, bracket and there is also a front plate that bolts onto the rotor that goes over the lugs. The kit would come with some bolts too.

general questions about brakes.. I got some new wheels for my car.. from the stock 14s to 15s [205/50s] the braking didnt really change. Only had the the brakes lock once during hard breaking.

Now I changed my set again.. from the 15s [205/50s] to 16x7 [225/45s] When braking.. The car feels like it will just slide out. I havent tested a hard brake yet [just got them on sat night.] The tires on them are ES100s which are real sticky. Can anyone explain this? Or is it just me.

tires dont have that much to do with braking...you have your brake pads, rotors, brake lines, calipers which all work to make your car brake..upgrading those will help you brake better not upgrading tires.

You'd be surprised. Brakes are only effective to the maximum grip of the tire. You could have a KILLER set of brakes on a car with a crappy set of tires and stop worse than a stock equipped car.

I've seen a bit of talk about the 7th Gen brakes being a direct fit to the 6th gen, so it would reason that a 7th gen brake kit would be a (whatever is involved depending on the kit) simple installation also. Unconfirmed, but I'm going to be hitting some junkyards for one of our cars and will try to find a front brake setup from a 7th gen also.

dunno bout the rear but it might be alil cheaper since it should be slightly smaller... or maybe more expensive since they need to make the ebrake drums too...

some of us paid less for our clips than that brake setup!!!! thats really expensive and i dont think the 7th gen setup will work on ours. i got some nopi drilled and slotted rotors and my friend who gave them to me said the company accidentally sent the wrong rotors...he was working on a 7th gen and they didnt quite fit. so he gave them i mean sold them to me.

the universal Hat...

look at the rotor its 2 piece...piece 1) actuall contact surface (disk)
2)hat where it slides over your studs and mounts to your hub...

its not application specific, many holes = not specific design FTL

Overall Diameter: 275mm

True that. If you get upgraded stock pads, rotors, and lines, you'll most likely be happy. The car doesn't wiegh much, so it just doesn't need the bigger brakes. I've got a set of 4 piston calibers I was thinking about test fitting to my Celica to see how much modifications are needed. As of right now, it looks like all I'll have to do is make a different mount. Shouldn't be hard. If I do it over winter break, I'll let you all know. I might sell the plates and calipers if it's not that hard to put together.

90% of people who get 'big brakes' do it for aesthetic value. You gotta abuse brakes pretty hard and very frequently to make full use of fixed 4+ piston calipers and 12+ inch rotors. I know I got bigger alltrac front brakes for the looks...

I agree with kwanza. I just put on crossed drilled rotors on my GT and I really don't feel a big difference from stock (non drilled) rotors. The only thing that makes me say "wow" is when I see them on the car.

bigger brakes will make the car stop better but do you really need them to ? the stock brakes work well when they have good pad/rotors. IMO it isn't worth it unless you are going for a "bling" upgrade factor. If you really want an upgrade then switch to SS braided lines, that seems to be the weakest point of our braking system, which is minimal.

I think that the weakest point of most everyone's braking system is their tires. Brake upgrades don't help much if your car won't stick to the road. wink.gif

idk about the rest of you...jdg should be able to back me up on this, though.

as an auto-x'er, i USE BRAKES. i haven't have good results with drilled/slotted rotors...they seem to warp easier from the heat. maybe i need to buy better ones....but they do eat up an expensive set of pads a little too fast for my liking. i've been known to use up brake pads pretty fast...like a whole set of hawks in one track day at waterford hills.

as far as i can tell, the best ways to improve your braking are:
-install stainless lines
-use motul dot 4 rbf600 fluid (my personal recommendation)
-get the best pads you can (green stuff, hawk, etc.)
-get good tires. please do not underestimate the importance of good rubber in stopping ability.

i'm waiting for spring to do all of this to my new celica, but that was the combination that worked miracles for my old one.
