First of here's the spec: 94~97, double-din, top CD, bottom casette/radio, Non-JBL.

Mine stopped working, kept reporting "ERROR". K, no sweat, so I got an identical one from eBay for like $25 or some ****, nope. Same "ERROR" message while trying to play the CD... Aite, let's keep it genuine, get ANOTHER one. This ****ing **** ass player still reports "ERROR".

W... T... F... !?!?!?

All 3 players, radio works, looks great, don't know if casette works or not... but all of the, reading legit/burnt/enhanced/regular/gold CDs would report "ERROR".

Please help. I'd really like to stick with stock radio.

Lol, my cd player was horrible it would skip everytime I hit a small rock on the road. I never got errors though. I would say ditch it you can get a pretty decent cd player for cheap, unless you really want the stock one for some reason. An aftermarket one would definitely be better for playing burned cds and such.

Mine doesn't say error, but when I go around long curves like the onramps to the interstate that are 270 degrees at high speeds everything cuts out...

would a newer toyota one be basically plug and play? (aside from getting it unlocked). And how would that use the 2 stock amps?

i know that newer toyotas don't use the security protection code that some of ours have. when i went to get mine unlocked, the dealer said the newer ones don't even have it because it gives toyota more work to have to unlock every stereo that gets unplugged or sold to somebody else.

anyway, it's pretty odd the way you'd get an error message after switching between stereos and CDs.. ever check the manual? it has some stereo troubleshooting tips as far as i can remember.. not sure if it would solve your problem but it's worth a try.

maybe there's a busted wire somewhere or a messed up fuse and all the cd players are ok. or maybe it's your car telling you to go aftermarket.

oh well, no huge deal, but yes it seems to be fairly common.

as for looks, lots of alpine units have green lighting (though it's leds so they're more vivid than the stock lighting). it does sorta bite having your stereo faceplate protrude a bit.

but aftermarket units often have the aux input and then you can play songs from a hard disk player (ipod whatever). once you get a hard disk with all your music on it you'll never want to fuss with cds again wink.gif i'm not exagerating either, when i build my carpc, i probably won't bother with a cdrom.
