When you guys are daily driving the celi, what do you guys shift at, cuz a lot of my friends w/ diff cars shift at super low RPM like 2k-3k, but if I shift at 2k, then the car will not have enough power in the next gear, so i was wondering what you guys shift at in Daily Driving.

Thanks

depends. you'll get alot better gas mileage if you shift at ~3k for daily driving. if you want to go really fast, you can spin up to the redline...but your mpg will go down and you'll have to pay more attention to your shifts.

i tend to agree that i rarely get past 3k, just to keep the mpg friendly and not draw too much attention to myself.

I shift normally at 3k. But sometimes I end up shifting right below 4k when i'm unaware of it. And most times, especially at stop lights, I rev it to 7k or more smile.gif

Redline is a suggestion.

i tend to accelerate pretty fast so i shift around 3500-4000 rpm during 1st to 3rd gear. but once i hit the speed limit i slow it down and shift around 3000. from a stop, i can't shift below 3000 cuz its too slow. one reason why i'm hesitant to upgrade my exhaust is cuz i already rev somewhat high and don't wanna draw too much attention to myself. and i don't usually shift at redline cuz the st's can't pull very well after about 4500 rpm.

all depends what i am doing really,

general every day, driving like miss daisy (fuel consumption is the name of the game) - 3kish
out with the mates on a propper blast: 5 - 6k

have to b careful there though, as my racing ECU has no fuel cut and it will rev past the redline...not good to be honest,

Never above 2000 on a cold engine.

Usually around 3000-4000 daily driving.

5000-7000 spirited driving

And about 9000 rpm when racing.

The car runs great above 1000 rpm though, so in 2nd gear just crawling around in town I can drive between 800 and 1200 rpms. idle on a warn engine is 500 rpms. You just have to love the rotary wink.gif

PS: Not a Celica!

5000 RPM all the way..

I tried shifting at 3000.. in the ST.. it feels like I didn't even move..

So.. usually I shift around 4200-4700 daily.

yes I get a crappy gas mileage..

HAHA thats some crazy daily driving.

For me i shift anywhere from 2500-3500k Usually never above that.

When it comes to racing i shift at 5-5200K because anything after that feels like i lose power. frown.gif

The power band just isnt broad enough right now.

i shift early..
Normal: ~2500 rpms on dry roads in good weather conditions
Normal: ~2800-3000 for spirited driving in good weather conditions
Winter: ~2200 rpms after engine has warmed up
Winter: ~1900-2000 in very icy conditions (and i drive like a grandma tongue.gif)

at these rpms, i can at least drive smoothly (little jerking) at various accelerations.

So i guess normally everyone is saying about 3k or so, does that mean you stay in first for about 1/2 a second or so??? Cuz my first gear goes so quick then.

I used to shift right around 3000 or even under. I find that I actually save more gas shifting between 3000 and 4000
