Heh.. What can I do to ease up on the wheel hop? In 2nd gear if I go WOT .. boost at 12-14psi the front tires just ****in leap off the ground... happens as soon as I hit 12-14psi.. if I don't go WOT it ain't an issue..

Btw.. this happens at like 40-50mph frown.gif

I'm using an E153 w/ an MR2 VLSD and I'm on BFG G-force Sport performance summer tires.. (225's)

welcome to driving a turbo FWD car.. lol

theres not much else you can do for street use.. your just going to have to not go WOT in 1st/2nd, thats part of driving a car with decent power, is that 1st and 2nd gear you have to find the sweet spot, its not like driving a cheap ass econobox and thrashing through the gears smile.gif

stiffer motor mounts help a little.. anything you can do to take out the slop in the front suspension will help.

my setup ...

eibach sportlines.
Kirks poly mounts
17x7.5 rims with 225-45 kumho asx

while i have a good bit of torque steer, i never had an issue with hop. the car used to loose traction really badly in 1st and 2nd....and 3rd (3rd only in the rain), but buying a new set of tires helped that out in a major way.

what size/brand of rims and tires are you using?

The tires are BFG G-force Sport summer tires.. 225/50/16's .. on 7GC Rims.

I'll have to tune the AVC-R for 2nd gear then..

wheel hop wasn't an issue really. im not sure if its the solid mounts, or the tires.
in 1st i could rarely get wheel hop if i was launching and dumped the clutch.
now ive adapted my driving style to roll into the gas not just pound it to the floor.

im willing to bet that the 16s are giving you some extra spin/hop too. look into some 17s if you want an upgrade at some point. i would imagine that 15-16s would spin like crazy on my car.

and like itchy said, you kind of have to feather the gas in those gears to keep good traction. i normally do like 50-75% throttle in 1st, and wot in 2nd. the faster you get the car going before hitting WOT, the more traction youll have.

Well of course the faster I'm going the more traction I'll have.

I don't always get hop in 2nd .. it just depends.. I was having fun on the highway tonight.. I dialed the AVC-R in for 1.15Kg/cm^2.. which works out to 16psi.. I was hitting 16-17psi.. Anywho.. I was doing a buck 30 on the highway up a mountain.. *sigh*... AFR's at that boost stayed in the 12's .. never close to 13.. and this is on 93oct.

If I run 14 the afr's will stay in the low 11's... I really need to cut my usdm bumper out like the GT4 bumper so I get more floor to my massive FMIC...

It was pretty damn funny though.. this new pontiac.. I don't know grand prix or some **** was cruising down the highway doin about 80-85 i'd say.. I just got off of a run and I'm slowing down .. screwing with the avc-r dialing the wastegate duty cycle in to get my target boost.. which was 1.15kgcm2.. stupid avc-r and it's imperial measurements.. anyway.. I get that done.. pontiac boy is bout a mile ahead of me at this point.. and I just put it into third.. wot.. 4th.. wot... 5th wot.. catch up and fly by him.. by this point i'm going up the mountain..

Next thing I thing I should work on is brakes.. cuz they went to **** REAL fast.

Highways get so nice around here later on .. they just get empty.. 3 lanes of freedom.

And ive heard from a rally mechanic that if you but the back of the car little stiffer than the front its gonna give you also some extra grip. Sounds wierd but its gonna give you a little upgrade. And its not gonna cost you anything else than time if you already got adjustable shocks. So why not atleast try it. wink.gif

No traction issues here in 2nd. Only if I go from WOT from 1st to 2nd it tends to skid a 1/10 of a second. This is on dry roads of course. In the wet I cant do much untill 3rd gear.

225/35/18 Toyo Proxes T1-R tyres with TEIN SS dampers at hardest setting.

BTW These are soft compound tyres. Done about 6000 miles on them (5000 with turbo) and already down to 30% thread

stiffer motor mounts (Front and rear mainly)
a motor brace
front and rear sway bars (if u just upgrade the front then you'll run into undresteer)
properly set front shox
....

a clutch that is not a 3 puc

Same issue here - wheel hop is a nightmare in 1st,2nd, and occasionally in 3rd. The rear suspension is the key - go as stiff as your kindeys will handle ( or get adjustable's to switch between daily and track use ). The stock suspension cant hadle the extra torque from the turbo - I'm just waiting until spring to get a new set of adjustable rears.

Under heavy exceleration, the rear end will over compress which basically shifts the weight / momentum back and helps to lift the front end. By stiffening the rear and limiting the amount the rear compresses, you force the front to stay planted.

hey that brings up a good point ^^^ . how many of u guys have big heavy sub boxes in the hatch that really throw excessive weight onto the rear tires.
when i had my two 12's and hundred pound box i could feel the ass end sitting down and the front wheel hopping.

but i sold my stereo system a while back and i 100% can notice an increase in handling and less sitting down in the back on acceleration.

so yeah stiffer rear end def helps.

Mm yea a stiffer rear is good... I like my rears tight...

Anywho.. I got Kirks mount inserts.. so hopefully that will help a bit.. those stock mounts are shot.
