cost of the 5sfte, how much should it cost? Options

alright, I've seen alot of people say that a 5sfte set-up could be done for like $1500-1600. but everytime I sit and try to calculate a cost, I end up over $2500... could someone possibly tell me how much it typically costs for a 5sfte turbo kit? here's what I figure:

3sgte stuff (turbo, manifold, downpipe, oil pan, map sensor, oil lines) $300-400
injectors $300-400
fuel pump $100
FMIC (including all pipes, couplers, clamps) $300-500
gauges $150-200
SAFC+BTM/emanage ultimate $600
BOV $150-200
exhaust $200-300

for a total cost of $2100-2700. abd that's before any dyno tuning! is there no cheaper way to do a 5sfte?

are you going with a majority of new parts? I got my S-AFC2 for $160, but it was used, so if i got that along with a used MSD BTM, i'm not looking anywhere near $600 for that pair.

there's someone I know that's selling an almost complete used turbo kit for the 5S for about $900.

the stock alltrac or mr2 turbo 2bar map sensor. apparently, using the stock sensor messes with the ecu because the stock sensor doesn't know how to respond to the boost. or something along those lines. you might want to ask someone who knows more than I do...

but the alltrac uses AFM. i thought the factory MAP sensor from a 5sfe was fine. could someone please let me know?

then, i started looking for parts:
3s exhaust manifold, ct-26 turbo, oil hard lines, elbow and primary cat (also known as a downpipe), if your not planning on getting a aftermarket downpipe. also the oil pan and 2bar map sensor.

hi, i got a 5th gen 5SFE that i turbo'd, i know i know 5gen etc whatever, same engine and i too did ALOT of research.....

welded up my own manifold because i was just not impressed with the burien/OEM turbo manifold.
i use a Schwitzer t3-ish turbo, found on saabs for the most part....
Supra MK4 NA injectors, non-California spec....i dont live in the USA anyways, these suckers spray about 550cc (!) Call the friendly guys at burien toyota for the part number, i always forget to stash it in a word-document in my computer......23250-46xxx i think it is
SW20 MAP sensor.
TRE-Performance 255LPH fuel pump.

Stock ECU does fine with this MAP sensor/Injector set up. No freak-outs on the timing at all. From what i hear from the local toyota dealer (i befriended some of the Mech's after i stunned them with my build...) they told me the 3S & 5S ECU's are practically the same unit, the MAP signal on both ECU's is designed to read boost as well, AS LONG AS IT COMES FROM THE RIGHT type of MAP sensor. Non turbo MAP sensor freaks out with boost, doing the check-valve trick doesn't really cut it correctly, plus the signal it sends is always off by a few tenths of a volt. SW20 MAP sensor & Supra Injectors are the way to go.

i actually am using the 2bar map, just out of a alltrac instead of a mr2, same unit tho.

oh ha! i was looking at your pics, i still need to figure this forum out, i musta been looking at your older pics of what seemed to look like the old MAP sensor & 300cc injectors.

yeah the 2bar SW20 MAP sensor is the way to go....alltrac 2bar MAP is the *same* thing, altho its listed with a slightly different part number in the Toyota micro-fiches, i dont get why.

I'm assuming (and hoping) you're using something other than a ct-26?

a well built, reliable turbo kit for the 5sfe should cost you ~2500-3k

intercooler and bov $90 side mount from a eclipse GST and a greddy type s, from a friend
all the lines for about $25
and injectors off ebay 7mge for $22 with shipping and in great shape
all i need now is a fuel pump that i will get from a friend when he gets his new one, and i just have to get the piping and bend it, the exhaust is already done

yeah i know i got really lucky, if i wouldnt have found those parts i would have just bought a 3sgte and done the work to swap in the motor than the turbo kit, but i am still getting the new motor and ill be selling the kit after i get the new motor in

exhaust manifold, turbo, downpipe, oil pan, oil lines, and the 2bar map sensor. though the turbo may need re-built. you're still gonna need:
fuel injectors, fuel pump, piggyback unit (like SAFC or emanage), intercooler + piping, gauges (at least a boost gauge), and a blow off valve. probably a couple other small thing too.

if you decide you don't want to turbo yours, you could send some of those 3sgte parts my way

could someone please take a picture of the 2bar map sensor and tell me where it's located on the 3sgte!? Haha that part confuses the hell out of me, and i have no idea what it looks like haha. Oh any also. The 3sgte injectors wont work? Dammit. Oh well, i'll just grab em next time im at the junk yard. So im looking at another $1400ish to finish up my turbo kit without the turbo rebuild right? And how much as an estimate would it cost to rebuild the turbo?

the map sensor i got was on the firewall by the passenger side fender, bout a foot away roughly 2 1/2 inches long and 1 1/2 inches wide, i would take a pic of it but my camera doesnt work anymore, and since the 3sgte injectors dont work id try the 7mge supra non turbo injectors, i hear those work great so i got those, check ebay, they are rated at 380 cc, im not sure about a turbo rebuild but i should check into it cuz i should rebuild my turbo

EDIT: I just looked how much it would cost new from 1sttoyotaparts.com, and it's like $236... much cheaper to get it used!

yeah those buggers are spendy, i got mine from the junkyard along with the turbo, manifold, and downpipe $200 in all

altogether spent about 1500 on mine...just look around for deals man, and be patient...you can easily spend upwards of 3 g's, but if you take your time and just shop around, you can find stuff cheap

i can vouch for justin on that i found alot of his stuff on here, alltrac.net, mr2oc, and celicatech. o and of corse ebay! lol. the injectors are hard to find cheap if ur gonna use the rx7 ones. map sensor is the second hardest to get. definatly take your time!!!!

I already have the injectors and the map sensor. I spent $150 on the injectors and like $65 on the map sensor. so far I've spent $388 (yes I'm keeping track) and I estimate another $1700-2100 more...
