hey guys im looking into buying a new video card for my computer, and i need some opinions on what kind i should get. unfortunately i have only a PCI slot not an agp or PCI-e.
 right now i currently have a ATI Radeon 9250 (256 mb) card. and it works ok but im hopeing there is another card out there that could possible be better than what i got or should i stay with the card i have now?

stay with the one u have mate, save up money and get a new comp if u hav the chance, i'm doin the same right now, but with cars, no point in putting more money into something that outdated

Forget about AGP's now, they are crap. My ati X800 PRO cooked a few days ago and it was AGP. Im sick and tired of these video cards frying up after intense gaming. So go with a PCI-E.

well i guess ill stick with my comp for now and get a new comp later down the road. and be sure it has pci-e

Yeah Akira, it would be best to just leave your computer as is and save up for buying a mid-range to high-end computer (especially for gaming.) You won't be able to do much with just a pci slot, so it wouldn't be worth putting money into. An about AGP, yeah it does suck because most high-end cards are built for pci-e slot, but I average about 50-70 FPS using a BFG 7800 GS AGP Card. My mobo fried on my Dell 4600 so I just bought another case, new mobo and psu, add more fans, and take whatever components that was still usable from the old dell. So now I can still hang in there fairly good with the all the high-end computers that others have

its a good idea to buy a prebuilt one too. Because most prebuilt computers come with a free windows vista upgrade, and that cost just as much as building the same computer system yourself.

That card is just as good as they get for pci, the onlything better you could get is a x1300, and its not worth it.
Just save you money and get a nice dual core, sli comp

If i were you i would still build the comp,the prebuilts are coming with like vista basic, if im not misaken.
www.newegg.com is your best friend for computer parts for a good price, and excellent customer service. the reason i suggest a prebuilt computer is because, he is managing to use a pci video card system till this day. Meaning performance is not really a huge factor.
The only time i would build a computer is if i want a gaming/ over clocking machines. For basic websurfer/word processor, its hard to build a computer the same price as the prebuilt ones. You can even upgrade the videocard+ memory. So there is no real disadvantage to prebuilt. For the average websurfer, prebuilt system are the way to go.. you get a warrenty and all the software with the computer. |

dude if you have the money, build a beast.
nFroce 680i sli XMS2 2x1gb get the conroe e6600 - best bang for buck and it oc's like a beast I have mine at 3.2 ghz with a tuniq tower 120 and tis uber stable, its not even at its max yet EVGA 8800 gtx although a lil pricey but eats everything thrown at it. You could also get the less but powerful 8800 GTS which can be OCed pretty nicely.

Just save your money dude. It would be better to upgrade the specs of your computer than to invest in your old computer. Pci-e is the latest version of video cards and it will be more compatible to new released computer models.
