Ground and Power Wire Touched Help!, Question please help Options

I had my back seats down and i was looking for a cd in the back and when i looked up my cousin was in his car stopped in front of me. i quikly hit the breaks but my box movred back and my ground wire fell out. i turned the cd player off and a few mins later i got back to his house

the car was turned off but while recconecting the ground wire i accidently touched the power and it sparked.

the system still works but the question is

is there any long term damage? and is it possible the amp is fried at all? the system works fine and the fuses arent blown(obviosly)

if it works now it'll work forever (not really but you know)


only thing that would ever happen is the fuses will blow

thats what they're there for.

actually thats not all that could ever happen. i had my power and ground touch on my old fosgate amp and it shorted the wires out inside of the amp. but as long as it works now then unless you do something else to it, it should be just fine.

well i would say 75-80% of the time it wouldnt happen



but you are right

you could short out your amp


get some fork connectors and use those to connect to your amp if you dont have them already

The answer is yes and no... how long did the two wires touch? Like GT2GT4 said, if it works now, you should be fine. What could happen if the wires touched for a prolonged period of time is cause your harness to melt (the rubber shield that protects the wires). I doubt that the problem is this serious, but just giving you a possibility of something that could happen. Under most situations, your fuse would pop before this happens.

Unfortunately, a few months ago, my brother's passenger-side turn signal wires were never re-attached by the body shop. The wires dragged and intermitently touched, causing his harness to (literally) melt from that turn signal all the way to his fuse box. It was really ugly... and expensive to re-wire.

I drove it home today (hour and a half drive) and it was fine. I was told to listen and make sure it doesnt miss, and it didnt.

The wires barely touched for not even a second with the car turned off for a good few minutes. I am pretty sure it was just the leftover current in the amp that made the spark.

Sounds like it's time to get a couple of brackets to mount the box. Think of the damage it would do if you got into an accident.

Did you do any damage to the amp? Probably not... consider youself lucky and learn form the experience. The power cables are always on even if the car is off but the amp itself was off and that probably saved the amp.

Like GT2GT4 said get some kind of connectors to keep the wire seperate.
