In reference to this topic (http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=36658), I've bought 8" speakers, a size which apparently fits with very little or no modification, only to find out yesterday that they do not fit in the stock brackets. The diameter is too big. The only difference I've found is that in the topic, Silver94celicaowner has the 8 speaker system, whereas I have the 6 speaker system. Is the bracket for the lower speaker any different is this case? I have tried both with my Illusion Audio Nd 8.1i and some Kicker SSMB8s and neither fit.

the bracket in teh 6 and 8 speaker system are teh same. the bracket is too small, you would have to remove it to get the 8's to fit.

I was talking about the plastic mounting device to which the speaker attaches. Not the metal ring around the speaker which makes it bigger than 6.5". I do not believe I would be able to mount the speaker without a bracket of some sort...

How exactly do they not fit? I can imagine that the only problem wouldn't be with the actual size of the mount but the fact that it funnels in. So you would have to cut out some of the inner part of it, or get low profile 8" speakers, right?

Bummer, well good luck. Post some pics when you're done, I'd love to see what you did. And make sure it's mounted tight, I've heard there's been some rattle issues with those who have done 8's.

have a look on www.celica-club.co.uk in the Gen 6 section - I did a write up on the speaker fittng in my GT. I had to fabricate MDF mountings to get my speakers to fit.

The stock 8" brackets will not fit kickers 8" midbass speakers.. What you have to do is do some modifications to the bracket -- what I did is cut the thing directly down the middle, I then put the speak inside to where the bracket fits around it snugly and then I sealed the entire speaker around the edges and the one inch gap I had in the middle. Fits perfectly in the door.
