Matt claimed a pretty high rating. I don't remember what it was though. We'll just have to wait for him. His system sounded pretty nice though.

So theoretically I could hit the exact same DB level with exactly the same setup? Let me know prices and what not.

Don't know what my dB rating is yet...but I can only turn my volume up to about half way on the radio/CD before I'm blowing my eardrums out.
... and I've still got room for improvement as I'm not using the full RMS power of my speakers.

2 Oxygen Sphere 6's front doors (140W RMS)
2 Oxygen Sphere 165's middle panels (150W RMS)
2 Sony Xplod Subs rear parcel shelf (600W each - RMS?)
2 Sony Xplod X444 amps (4x100, 2x222 - RMS?)
Sony Xplod MP70 head unit.

Anyone know what the max. dB rating is before blowing/smashing windows?

Then i had my Corolla with Soundstream SPL component speaker in the doors, 2 soundstream MULE SPL subs in my trunk and 2 Soundstream 1002 amp's i hited 158.4 dB rating. It was the best result in whole my life... And then some motherf*** hited my window and got away with everything i had... From now - NO AMP'S NO SUB'S FOREVER!!! Oh, maybe some day...

yes you COULD hit the same with the same setup

it all depends out the voltage that your car is putting out, the battery, wire, preamp voltage, etc.

i have an optima yellow top battery

it was a Panasonic CQ-VAD9300U
1/0 Monster Cable wire and same size ground
Monster Cable RCA cords

they were like

59 bucks for 17ft.

the deck put out 4 volts to the amp

loads of dynamat

etc. etc.

for pricing you can get W7's on ebay for 399 plus shipping...they say factory warranty but those places are never factory authorized to sell that stuff...they normally buy in bulk then sell them.

the box was 200 bucks (had to be custom made)
the wiring for speaker, power and ground was like 100 bucks
the caps were 80 bucks a piece had two of them

so it wont be cheap
but if you win contests then you get the money back

thats if you win.

I thought that the yellow top should b used as a second battery. I have both the red and yellow, red in my car right now and i'll hookup the yellow later as a second battery later.

I need a 3rd amp for my midbass 8s in my doors.

I GOT:

2 150wt kenwood tweeters
4 180wt 6 1/2" mids
2 180wt 4 1/2" mids
4 1000wt 12" MTX 8000 Subs

Panasonic Deck

1 Kenwood 280wt AMP
1 Alpine V12 1500wt AMP

I dont know what the hell it is rated at but I just took out 2 of the 12's because It was totally over powering my mids. I couldnt even get my deck past volume 10 and it goes to 50.

Any ideas on what to do with my MIDS and HIGHS so i can put the other 2 12's in.

Alright, i went to my 1st comp. tonight, i did well. I won 1st in my division and had a 159.4 for my SPL. I only went through 1 run, everyone else went through 2 or 3, and had the 5th highest at the comp. 165.8 was the highest, except for the fact that one car was there that would have smoked everyone but didn't enter, it had 6 15" subs and it was tight. but 159.4 was my score, had the gain cranked up half way so i probably could have broke 160 but didn't feel like paying the extra money to have another run. Now i just need those 8" speakers hooked up to another amp and more highs.

I have two 10" SL7s, 2 KX600.1 amps. I had the gain half-way up, i was in the novice 501-100watt class, novice 'cause it was my first time. I think that when i add another amp to push my 8" kickers in the doors that should help a little bit.

Everything i have
2 10"SL7s
2 KX600.1
2 individual venter boxes
Xplod HU MX630-i think
4" pionner
6 1/2 premier pioneer
Running 0 gauge off a red top battery to a dist. block then running 4 awg to the subs.

I only did one run and this was my first time doing it so maybe the litte experience will help out and i'll tweak my settings next time.

where are you guys putting the mic anyway? Some of these scores seem a little BS. I hit 155's with my celica on the dash...but if you move the mic around to different spots.

Chucho, 159 with 2 10's and not that much power, I call bull****.
GT2GT4 , do you have anything to back that up...I haven't seen any impressive scores out of the W7's for the most part.

So where did you guys have the mics?

dude have u heard of boxes, do u know what vented boxes are?? they create a ton of volume. and the frequences that the subs are hitting at change the pressure. Higher frequences have higher pressure.

On the side, the guy from TOS, which is the local car audio place, put the mic at the front of the car by the front window. and thats w/ all the windows up except for my window that had the wire going through it. the Kicker kx600.1 is running 600 watts RMS each at 2OHMS and they put u in class by 4ohms stereo. just letting you know.

O yeah, and im well aware what vented boxs are, I run a 8 cubic foot box with 150 sq inches of port.

Higher frequencies don't have higher pressure, it is however easier to produce a higher frequency. I hit most of my scores at 67hz for that reason.

I hit a 150.1 in the very front of the car, and I had the seats up in the back, so I'm not sure how much sound is coming from the hatch, anyways Do not ever go to a Car Audio Connection competition, they like to use their company cars in the competition. I was beat by their protege project by 150.2 Db, and same throughout all classes, company cars won...

I still bon't know why they didn't mike the subs, cuz that's what they do in most comps, in this one they did it in the lowest part of the front of the car

I wish I had someone else with some beat around here to compare mine too, but it hits as loud as I ever need it to:

2 12" L7 Kicker Solobaric subs in a custom box
2 MTX 1501D mono-block amps @ 1500 watts each

Anyone have any idea how much that'll reach?

I dont know but 2 12" Kicker comps in Dual Chamber Box, 1 12" Kicker Comp in a Single Chamber, and 2 12" MTX thunder 4500's. The kickers running 280RMS, and The MTX at 200rms. I made raddles. I would say 140-155 Range, with the windows Up the Sound preesure would hurt your ears. I threw together the whole system for under 300$ just proving you dont gotta break your pocket.

It sounded great, Mixing subs is always a Good Idea because there is no one sub on the market that can hit every note. The Kickers could slam the lows, while the Mtx would hit most of the highs. I was running Prefabbed Box's, Crappy Amps and Still had the loudest system out of anyone.

With my setup i would guess i could get pretty high dB ratings....like maybe 140-ish, but i built my system more for getting great sound quality and no distortion at all.

Haha, Just cause you got money, and were able to invest in your system doesnt mean anyone can. Example With only 300$ I built my friend a Loud as$ system. Alpine Fully Motorized Deck 60$, MTX Tunder 280rms Amp ( 50$ ), For 2 10" Dual Vocie JBLs in a Bandpass Plexi Box ( 80$ ), then a Fanzar or some no name brand amp at 600rms ( Free ), pushing 2 12" Kicker Comps in a Dual Chamber Sealed Box ( 80$ ). At the car show he pulled 155 DB's. I can Hear Him over 1 mile away. He had to add a Second Battrey to support all the power. All this In a 1983 Blazer.

Ok...........

Mixing subs is going to give you mixed frequency responses just as you said. The problem is each sub is going to have different responses in different boxes. They will also have different transient responses and that can isolate each sub to your ear. Not a good idea. Having different subs crossed differently to play different frequencies is fine if using a steep slope. When different subs are combined it normally just sounds like mush to me. All kinda blends together a little.

Each sub will distort differently. Each sub will have different power handling. Each sub will have different impedance spikes. Each sub will have different power compression.

And as far as it being louder...I doubt it. Acoustic coupling wouldnt be as great. And with the different TR they could actually cancel each outer a bit if the phasing is off enough.

155db, seriously, that wouldn't break 140db. What meter was it? Where was the mic?

I hit 148.7 w/ my 2 12's, but I've changed my setup some now so I should hit 150+. This summer i'll have a custom ported box and maybe a new amp and headunit, so my goal is to be 155-160dB.

What kind of 12's do you have? Sealed hiting over 145db with 2 12's? Unlikely.

I have 2 Kicker SoloBaric L7's and believe me they hit. They're pushed by a 1600 watt DHD Power Cruiser amp.

Is the DHD amp the 2-ch NTX-3105? They say 1600w, thats max power rating. That amp puts out 540w RMS....270w per L7?? Sealed?? Over 145db??? Not possible. What mic was this? I would advise you to get a different amp that gives at least the L7's full RMS rating, if not more. Any build a ported box, good idea.

The amp is 2 channel and its bridged. I'm not guaranteeing that the mic was accurate, but it was at a professional car audio place. I have the paper @ home w/ a print out of it. I'd scan it in for proof, but my comp isnt working and the ones im using here @ school dont have scanners.
