Yes you can, and it will be a noticable change for you but after a while you will be sick of it and wished you would have done a 3sgte swap instead.

The 5sfe will not bolt right in to your ST. As far as bolting up goes, it would require the same work as dropping in a 3sgte would. -------------------- |

^ minus the intercooler, piping, etc... the few people who swap a 5s into their st's usually turbo it. and that's what makes a difference.

And when you say the same work as swaping the 3sgte what type of work are you talking?

If you are going to swap for gains pick another motor, unless you are going to boost it. From the looks of it, I doubt you are. If you are looking for power get the 4agze motor.

Depends on what kind of gains your looking for... Lots of people say you might as well do a 3sgte. But in reality it's going to cost close to 5k for a good swap. Where as if you look around and be patient you can do a 5s swap close to 1k. I'm still considering doing this and doing a mild port/polish and upgraded cam. I'll be happy with those gains. But i'm also considering doing a custom supercharger kit on my 7a. but to all their own

it's the easiest swap to do in the 6GC but equally as easy to put a better engine in (3SGTE) ... what they are saying is that if you are going to swap an engine in your car.. you might as well put a 3SGTE in it if you are looking for HP and torque gains.

i don't think we are getting at what he is asking here. i haven't personally done this my self but i do know that if you swap to a 5fse you are going to need to put in new motor mounts for one as well as a lot of other things. also do you have the 5sfe tranny too? i don't think the st tranny will bolt up to it and also you really can't get much out of the st tranny. if you are going to do this swap you should atleast supe it up a bit before. perhaps get yourself a 5sfte set up with a new tranny, i hear that mr2 and solara trannys work well with some modification.
all in all, if you just want to get more power in your car the plain old 5sfe isn't worth the work. i have had both and yes there is a diff but not big enough that i would go through all the work to swap one stock. Honestly, No the 5SFE is not cost efficient to swap into an ST, why? because you need different motor mounts, ECU, harness, transmission, axels, etc. If you want to swap in a better motor than the 7A then you should sell the 5S and use that money to buy a 4AGE. You can get them relatively cheap and they will bolt up to your current transmission and motor mounts. The only pieces you really need are the ECU and harness.

I wonder why people make mounts, harness, transaxles, axles etc such a big deal? You can get all at once cheap at a wrecking yard. This is far from being a complicated swap and parts are all over. As far as a 4age goes, the only obvious choice for an upgrade is either a ST or BT 4age and even then it's not worth it. And on top of that, I believe you need to use the 4age tranny and axle setup also. Plus ST's get around 120whp and blacktops get about 145whp which is easily obtainable with a slightly modded 5s. Plus you get ALOT MORE torque. This is the reason why we don't see a lot of new ideas come out because people always bad mouth simple swaps that may turn out to something different. This is also the reason why 5sfe projects are trashed because of all this bad garbage floating around. Anyways dude, I say go for it if you've done enough good research. Look up Jim Snodgrass's old setup. He made good power and all he had was a port job and 1 upgraded cam and made around 140whp 150torque. And i personally know that it was a mild setup because I owned that head at one point. This post has been edited by Celicaguy13: Apr 25, 2007 - 8:45 PM -------------------- ![]() |
