I just got a job for the summer as a pizza delivery guy and I want your opinion on what you think. Especially for the people who have worked as a delivery driver before.

I know I will be racking up miles on my celica like theres no tomorrow, but no worries I'm getting a new motor soon. biggrin.gif

i used to work inside making pizzas at papa johns
the drivers there seemed to like it, you seem to make decent money out of tips and what not, the only thing is your car will get destroyed (depending on how long you deliver), not only will you rack up the miles, but you will get dents and scratches and if you get into an accident or anything happens to you while your on the clock, chances are the company isnt going to help you out at all. but all in all you make some decent money and its not hard, make sure you work the friday nights wink.gif

Oh, trust me I'll try to work as much as possible. I'm not too worried about my body, planning on doing some body work (gt four front end & paint job) before next fall semester. People were telling me I'll make minimum wage, is this true?

^yeah min wage, depending on where you work, i dont think they have to even give you that since you'll be making tips. where i worked the drivers made 6.25-7.50 +tips depending on how long they had worked.

I belive you do make min. wage, but you also get a lot of tips so it ends up being a lot more.

I just got a job at Pizza Hut. Okay fall semester doesn't start until mid August. If I start May 11 what are the chances of me making over $4000?

I know the jobs going to be easy and I will be putting a lot of wear on my car, but if you guys haven't noticed I'm more converned about the money. The boss seems cool, given the fact that he played football at my high school, and I guess football's a pre-requisite.

Youd have to make damn good tips thats for sure and get a decent hourly wage.
6.5*40*4*3
Lets say you make 6.50 an hour, work 40 hours a week, every week for 3 months.
Puts you somewhere about 3150 just on hourly + An unknown amount of tips - your expenses.
Also depends on your spending habits.

Federal Minimum Wage is 5.15 I believe might go up to 7.25 in three years however.

I could have sworn federal min. wage went up to 6.15 as of last year.

Oh, is it even possible to get 40 hrs a week as a pizza delivery driver? I thought regularly people avg. 4-5 hours a day.

How does delivering pizza cause you to get dents and scratches and such? That makes no sense to me.

it happenes, its a lot of driving... maybe its just where i live, theres a few dirt/country roads and such (some people live in the woods), all i was really getting at with that was the fact that your car will take some abuse.

I've worked as one before.
But I didnt use the celica at all.
Its too nice for pizza delivery.
Just beware. you'll need a few starter motors,
I went through a few for my old car.

Yeah LOL that def happens. You can make some awesome tips off them if you just talk them up and make them feel good tho. One lady used to give me beer and and a $50 dollar tip once a week too [rich neighborhood]. Just gotta make them feel like they are still hot. They seem ok to stop there.

They should pay you for gas and wear and tear altho it won't be quite enough. I used to get $1.50 per delivery for gas and W&T on top of the min wage and then plus tips.
Just a warning - you're car will be toast after this. It almost killed my old celica back in HS. I ended up making more money after I moved into the kitchen making pizzas just because I didn't have to constantly repair my car. It's def not worth it.

My motor is already has 192,xxx miles on it and I figured one sumer with a pizza place ain't bad. If my motor goes it goes, because I'm going to drop in another 5s in there anyway before school starts. I'm just hoping it doesn't go the first couple of weeks I start.

Oh, I don't know if I could talk up an old lady. I'll probably get shot in my neighborhood.

I deliver pizza and well like they said maintenance costs will rise (brakes, suspension from crap roads and speed tables and lumps, and more oil changes). I drive my car ab 600 miles a week to add to the 240k already on it. Not sure about Papa Johns but most major pizza chains will deliver to the worst ghettos of them all and that is not a comfortable situation. Where I work we won't deliver to any high-risk areas. Although we have on accident before and they were looking at the celica like is was an exotic. As far as hours I get about 35 a week working six days which really blows. Gas is becoming more and more expensive. Basically comes down to if you get tipped well youll come out on top, if you get tipped crappy you might break even.
