well due to how many people i've helped through the process, i've decided to make it simpler... send me your climate control box and tell me the color you want... $2 per LED including installation costs... about 12 LED's needed to complete, takes 1-2 days to complete and then shipped back to you... current color choices are blue, red, green and white (white is a little more expensive but is a pure white), PM me any questions or for address to send unit...

EDIT: I WANT TO ALSO ADD THAT THE WORK I DO IS NOT THE SPRAY-PAINT HOW-TO SHOWN IN THE HOW_TO SECTION, mine are LED's soldered into the board in the correct positions, every LED is tested before sending back to you to make sure it is working correctly, EVERY light on the climate control board will be whatever color you pick and can be changed in the future if you so wish, this is not a permanent modification like the spray paint (they will be the color for as long as you choose)

PLEASE LOCK THIS THREAD

Ive already converted mine to blue. Except for the green leds that show what is on or off. Do you have these for sale? Also, the leds I used for the background color for the setting of face-floor-defrost and so on, were too long. The illumination for this had a clear plastic insert that needs a small bulb. Mine are too long and illuminates dull. Are you leds short enough to illuminate this? How much for the bulbs or where did you buy them? Thanks

pictures will be posted after the first one i do, might be mine once i get my new celica back from the transmission shop... i might be able to dig up some pics from my old red celica from before the accident (red lights) but i'll have to look around...

as for the small green LEDs, those are the tough ones, those need to be desoldered and resoldered and thats what makes this such a PITA

EDIT: I WANT TO ALSO ADD THAT THE WORK I DO IS NOT THE SPRAY-PAINT HOW-TO SHOWN IN THE HOW_TO SECTION, mine are LED's soldered into the board in the correct positions, every LED is tested before sending back to you to make sure it is working correctly, EVERY light on the climate control board will be whatever color you pick and can be changed in the future if you so wish, this is not a permanent modification like the spray paint (they will be the color for as long as you choose)

ok this is an OLD pic from my old celica, you'll see the light fading in some areas as mentioned by another member, this problem was fixed before my car was wrecked and no longer looks like this, light is dispersed evenly using multi-directional LED's, you can however see the indicator lights red which were soldered into the board, looks 100% stock

WARNING: RED LIGHTS WILL NOT SHINE THROUGH THE BLUE ON THE CLIMATE CONTROL SWITCH FOR HOT AND COLD, AND LIKEWISE WITH BLUE THROUGH RED (i believe, i've never tried blue LED's but i will be using them on my new celica) however i can use just white behind the AC control so both the red and blue will show up.... also i know of cutting out the color so only one color will show up all the way through but this is something i have not tried... i will do anything you want though... someone just asked me about blue background lights and red indicator - this is not a problem and any mix and match of colors can be done

ive tried sitching mine to a pure white color, the top buttons werent as bright and all of the buttons, the top ones and the inside/outside air along with the a/c button had a green tint to them... i dunno if its the type of plastic, im just interested in the 3 bulb spots that light them up if you have a place where i can get some nice BRIGHT white ones id appreciate it - all ive found were normal shoot in one direction led's and inverted ones which only shoot out the side (not illuminating the inside/outside air selector button) but multi-directional leds that small id love to know where to get em!

yes all you have to do is plug it in like normal when you get it back.... total cost depends on how much it costs you to ship it and how fast you want it back (cost of shipping service ~ ground, air, priority, overnight)

so here's the update i've been dreading to write and i've been thinking about from my hospital bed.... frown.gif ... let's begin with the story and end with my solution and hopefully everyone ends up happy...
I want to say i'm extremely sorry to both shocker and daftboy, its been a lot longer than expected and they have been nothing but great through this entire thing....
I work for Statler Brothers Outdoor Advertising and my job is to put up billboards along the sides of highways, bridges, etc.(part time). we wear full body harnesses attached to the main structure via a bungie like chord, yesterday a bolt snapped on the platform i was standing on (as i am told) and i fell to the platform below me... hitting my leg off the platform below... snapping my femur.... yes it does hurt a lot cause i know someone will ask,

So i was in the hospital for over a day and two surgeries later i am home... to my happiness... my celica is parked in my driveway as it finally was done with its surgery (tranny, axles, mounts) as my dad was nice enough to bring it home when i was in the hospital...

now to the bad news... no the units have not yet been tested.... no they have not been shipped... due to my inability to follow my above stated conditions, this is my solution... SHOCKER and DAFTBOY... both units will be tested and returned to you, completed with LED's free of charge... DAFTBOY... you will owe me no payment for LED's or shipping, SHOCKER... the money enclosed to me will be sent back to you

As for units being sent to me currently... due to my lack of mobility, i SHOULD have no problem finishing units in stated 1-2 day period... HOWEVER due to these experiences.... i must warn buyers that time could take longer... and if you are on an extreme deadline... please talk it over with me before sending... thank you and i hope everyone ends up happy with their LED's

Alright so here's where we are at... Last week I purchased $50 in incandescent lights and LED's for testing in the background application... and i think i've found the ones i like best... the original count for LED's was also wrong... there are four background lights at $4 each and nine indicator lights at $1 each, plus two extra little LED's i'm adding in to get rid of some of the dull spots... now thats the cost of materials frown.gif... so new price is $30 in any color you choose....

ALSO.... the red/blue heater control... if the background lights are blue... it overrides the red (blue is higher frequency) and there is no longer any red.... so if you want your background to be blue... the entire thing must be blue... however if the general background is red... i can add a white bulb in to show the blue as well... however the entire background cannot be red....

with that said... even further custom modifications can be made that could change the above but this includes a lot of my time and more $$$$, and i have never tried them so buyer beware.... they include cutting out the blue for red background or adding in spacers to remove the blue color from that region with a blue background.... these are just some of the ideas i have had... if anyone else can think of another way please let me know...

PICTURES TO BE POSTED OF BLUE W/ RED AND BLUE w/ BLUE AFTER MY NEXT SET OF LED's COME IN, LOOKS LIKE WED.

ALSO... if anyone has PMed me and i quoted you $25, this is still good for you guys... a quote is a quote, so supra... no worry about the extra cash

Yeah shouldn't be a problem, most Toyota stuff is pretty much universal as far as parts go and the methods they used to put together the lights... i tried to help my buddy out with his GM IMpala and i believe it was almost impossible to do in a cost effective manner, however i have not done Supra controls yet, but if you want to ship it to me then i can give a quote to you... if you decide that it won't work out, i'll ship it back to you on me

LED's look great but A/C logo was a little dark so i'm going to add one more LED in to brighten it up and then yours should be good, Daftboy... hmmm, so was it you or a previous owner that took the yellow highlighter to the back of the buttons??? both knobs look great but all the buttons are... well light green kinda... haha thats what they look like to me but i'm color blind smile.gif they are not as bright blue as shockers so i'm kinda disappointed so i was thinking about maybe trying to soak your buttons to get that highlighter out and then retrying... maybe more LED's? either way i'll have pics up tomorrow so take a look and let me know what you think

PICTURE TIME smile.gif

NOW THESE ARE ALL BEFORE MY MOST RECENT UPDATES TO THE UNITS.... i'll explain changes at the end...
One more thing... the camera doesn't show the blue and red quite as bright as they really are... much more noticeable to the naked eye smile.gif

What do you think we should do about the highlighter? you can obviously see they are not as bright as Shocker's...

a few led's were added up top to brighten it up and on the a/c button cause it didn't get a lot of light at all.... pics don't show what was added, both units had LED's added to fix dull spots

new pics to be added soon

Looking good.
Just a question..Did putting white leds behind the heater and a/c knob not work like we talked about to keep the red on it not work?

QUOTE(pittfirefighter @ May 20, 2007 - 2:13 PM)

^^^^^ thats about the heater knob control, read it again smile.gif i posted that a few days ago about it, the blue is too strong for the white to work alone... i could try further modifications but its nothing i've ever done before... just read it, i tried to explain it the best i could...

daftboy... what do you think we should do about your highlighter buttons? the knobs look great in both your units, wouldn't change a thing about either of those

jason... those pics there was only one in the original bulb hole, as mentioned... since then i have added three more to be pointed at the top buttons and another behind the A/C button, its hidden completely in those pics

EDIT: here's what i'm thinking for those heater controls... i have some good quality plastic that i use for audio stuff (brackets, etc) and i could cut that and hot glue? it in there as spacers to get rid of the blue light in that region and then add a white or red LED to have the red shine through... what you guys think?

Wow that's beautiful. I would love to enlist your services once I find a climate control that hasn't been scarred by the cigarette lighter by it's previous owner.
Get better man, and keep up the beautiful work!

I would greatly appreciate it. I know thats what steers away alot of people from going away from the leds in the cc. I personaly think it would be the step above every body elses climate control boxes. But if it to much trouble dont worry about it. you already done enough for me.

That's a good start pittfirefighter but if you want it to look perfect you'll need to back light each button individually. The directional nature of LEDs do not make them the best solution for back lighting our climate controls. I've tried it just about any way you can think of and this is the only option I've found to be satisfactory.
BTW, Oznium has pretty good prices on their bulk 3mm LEDs. Should help your profit margin or you could pass the savings along to the customer. $2 an LED is pretty steep installed or not.
http://www.oznium.com/led

It'll take a little more work but as you can see the results are outstanding:

It's $1 an LED, not $2 for the 3mm, backlight LED's are $4, thats the price i pay, i'm not trying to make any profit off of this, and as the posts say, i have added more LED's to the backlight of the unit

No need to get defensive. I'm just trying to help out. I didn't see your other post with the new price. You're still paying way too much for LEDs even at $1 ea for the 3mm. Oznium has the best prices I know of.

alright, daftboy, i have to put some screws back in yours and wrap the wires in electrical tape, they should be fine by themselves but a little cautious never hurt anyone
shocker... you backlighting is getting the rest of the LED's put in as now i'm using MORE smile.gif and A/C knob is getting finished... yours should be done tomorrow night at about this time....
so shocker and daftboy... yours will be sent out on wednesday or possibly thursday at the latest...
i'm waiting to hear from supra if she wants her's done like this as well or what... i could have hers shipped out friday
"Is it dimmer than the stock green or a little better? (the buttons)"
-Not sure yet, as far as i can tell it should be a little better, the indicator lights are bright bright bright though... buttons should be close to stuck but blue

daftboy... those pics above are of your highlighter buttons... i think they look good still but you might want to change the buttons like you said, flat head screwdriver will take the buttons right off, you can do it easily, there's a tab on the bottom of each button that you use to pop it off, its really easy. wait to see them then we can talk about it... shipping out tomorrow

mrflickzit, PM me your info... what colors you want including the A/C knob, background color, and indicator light color

alright shocker... yours will be sent out friday morning... it will be sent back priority like you sent it to me... the three pics are from yours tonight, i think it turned out really well... sadly due to all the custom work... this thing is FRAGILE!, it will have no problem in the car i just hope USPS doesn't kick it around too much... if you have any problems when you get it.... lights don't turn on etc... let me know immediately... we'll see what we can come up with but you should have no problems smile.gif
daftboy... a small amount of trouble with the rear defroster indicator button... i have no problem with the red LED's i used in shockers but that one button does not like the blue ones... it lights for a few pushes than dies... i think its trying to draw too much juice... i'm going to run to radioshack tomorrow and pick up some other blue LED's for it.. your main unit will also be shipped out tomorrow.... defroster just plugs in the back.... no screws or anything so i'll get it finished up and send it to you when i figure out the problems.... you'll have no problem putting it in yourself

hope everyone likes their units!!

i swear i have had the worst luck with these.... ok so i shipped both daftboy's and shocker's before i left for vacation.... i sent them UPS priority or whatever their equivalent is called... left for vacation... came back and find the two boxes inside my house... seems they couldn't insure them for the amount of money i paid or something... idk... i went to the UPS store already in boxes and because i said they were fragile i thought they would slap a sticker on or something.... but no... they decide they have to be repackaged so they can insure them and i paid in cash so they just sent them back to my house... i have a credit there now so i just have to take them by tomorrow (if they're open) and pay a few extra bucks to have them repackaged.... sorry for the delay guys... i'm pretty sure we couldn't run into more problems... frown.gif
