Tweak, Pressure, Playr - this pic looks just like my IC. The only dimension I know is it's 3" thick. The reason Is I got it on a bad debt from a friend. It's brand new and I'd like to use it on my 5S-FTE but I want to make sure it's gonna be OK. You guys have a lot of knowledge and first hand experience.
![]() I know a smaller one would be optimal and one this large will probably give me pressure drop but this one was free and I'm sorta strapped for cash with all the other parts I've been getting so... Let me know what your opinions are. Thanks in advance. BTW - Other opinions are wanted too - I just neamed those guys cause they for sure know what's up. -------------------- ![]() |

Looks great. i have one very similar in size and it made a world of difference even with the ct26. id rather have pressure drop than hot air doing into my engine. and if you even wanna go with a larger turbo someday you wont have to worry.

Cool - thanks Itchy - Man so sorry I forgot about you. LOL. I've been following your recent build diary too.
![]() Anyone else? I want as many opnions and arguements as possible so I can weigh my options. Also are there any tricks that make getting the front bump[er off easier? I know the ones on the side that mount up to the quarter panels are supposed to be a real PITA. Any tricks? -------------------- ![]() |

dangerous running without a crash bar, but other than that im sure it will be fine. little overkill IMO
my core is 26 3/4" L x 6 3/8" High x 3 1/2" Deep and its rated for 350 wheel. i think 90% of the intercooling on this site is overdone ![]() just add water injection! This post has been edited by brianforster: May 15, 2007 - 12:05 AM |

From the pic it looks like you can install the crash bar over top of the IC. In fact what looks to be in jeopardy is the little strap that runs from the hoodlatch to the lower radiator support. I'm sure I can fab up a diff strap for that. I'm not about to run without the crashbar.
Other opinions about overdoing the IC? QUOTE(NgoFcukinWay @ May 15, 2007 - 12:13 AM) [snapback]557611[/snapback] holy s**t! finally getting around to it, eh? Yeah - I want to use that new IC cause it's brand new and probably won't need to be upgraded later. -------------------- ![]() |

looks like the one i have in my garage 3" thick x 12" tall x" 27/28" wide...is it overkill, yea kinda lol, will you really notice a difference, not really. So you could use it and it will work perfectly fine, but it won't be like super dooper efficient. if you run the crash bar in front of it you'll be cutting off air flow to one section of the intercooler though

But it will be the top part away from the inlet and outlet so will it still work good enough? Basically in cooling capacity it will be just like the smaller one I should have in the first place right? Or am I missing something?

well it still gets air up there, that isn't getting the cold air flow to it....where as the bottom is, so you aren't getting the cooling that you would be if it was open...you could do something similar to the Curren crash bar, where you get to plates and have a literal circular bar running across, which opens up larger surface area.
also are you going to have a body kit or OEM bumper? cause i mean if you're running OEM bumper w/foam + crash bar there will be 0 flow up on the top anyways..but if you have a kit, C-one or modified invader like i had, you would be getting flow that would be getting blocked... OEM - I really dislike bodykits on the 6th Gen Celica. When I'm all done my body will consist of:
-Stock body with facelift front and wing -Stock Sideskirts -GT4 Hood [yes I know doesn't look right to most with facelift/SS-III front - but it looks great to me] -OEM front Exstensions -OEM Rear Mudflaps And that's it. I really like the way that combo looks as I already did a Photoshop of it plus I already have all of it in place except the OEM Exstensions. Now with all that said will the IC be ok even though there is no air to the top? It will get as much air as is possible from the mouth and the small space above it. which would still be slightly more than a 6"tall IC because I will place it as low as possible [lower than the pic above by at least 3"]. Will the air going up top be a problem? Is there a way to block it off on the inside from going up top? I guess If I had to I could always add another opening/grill to the top of the bumper like someone on here did a few years ago but that would be well down the road and I'd like to avoid it if at all possible. I just really like the way that body combo looks and it would be unique using only OEM available parts. -------------------- ![]() |

I know it would cost you more money, but an idea for you, since you want to use a GT4 hood, and to really make your car on point and done well is to order a GT4 bumper, take it and your OEM to the shop have them cut the top 1/2 off each bumper mate the GT4 top to your OEM bottom facelift (it is possible), that way it will all run together,
take the GT4 bottom, mate it to your OEM top (don't have it painted) and sell it here @ cost to you (i know someone will want it) that way i really think your car will fully come together though it makes it lil more $ and effort but it would be worth it and you could have the IC fixed, take it to someone who does good tig welding, have them cut it down to 6" or 8" tall weld a plate to close the end tanks ![]() This post has been edited by playr158: May 15, 2007 - 3:06 PM |

its probably too big and will restrict flow on the stock bumper. i would sell it and get something smaller for your setup.
i have my spearco for sale if you (or anyone else) wants it. its the same one presure2 uses on his 5sfte. pm me if you want it. This post has been edited by lagos: May 15, 2007 - 3:27 PM -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

Playr - that's a really good Idea. The only thing is I actually like the gap between the hood and the bumper:
![]() Everyone besides Ngofcukingway that sees it in person really likes it too and it really looks like it's supposed to be that way. I had to point it out to other tuners who are not familiar with the GT4 enough to know that that is actually wrong. Plus air comes in and over the header/turbo and out the vent and keeps it way cooler that way. I know it would work the same way with the large opening on the GT4 where the Toyota sign is on the GT/ST bumper but this way looks like a hood scoop. If you could see the way the black coating is aging you would see what I'm talking about. The entire area between the front middle of the hood [where the gap is] and the large vent is still as black as when I installed the hood but the rest of the hood is a light gray now from the heat of the engine. The defining line of the moving air/faded painted is very precise. You can def see where the air is flowing in and out keeping the hood [and presumably the parts underneath] cool. Just as I predicted it would. I'll take a pic later to show you what I mean. I think that will really benifit the Turbo later on. Thanks for the very good idea tho. The other alternative would be to add the large upper bumper opening that the GT4 has directly to the GT bumper and mold it in like someone on here did a few years ago. I wish I knew who that was. But I really don't like that one. I think it ruins the vision I have for the body of the car. Basically the pic above with OEM front exstensions and everything painted to match is the way I've always wanted the car to look. I'm very happy with it visually and it's unique and it's 100% OEM. I like that. When people [like the parts manager at Joe Myer's Toyota last night] asks what body kit is that I'm proud to say "it's stock". So that said - will the air going up top on the intercooler effect the performance of the IC to less than say that of a 6" tall IC? I mean will hot air still be forced into my engine? If so is there a non permanent way to shut off the flow to the top on the inside of the IC? Does anyone wanna trade a 6" tall [preferably same side inlet and outlet] for the one I have? Mine is brand new never been used and the ends are capped of to keep stuff out. I'd take a used one as long as it's in like new condition - meaning no holes or repaired holes. Alternately yet again - I have a staock MKIII Supra T FMIC which is made for the CT-26 in my garage but it's sorta tall too. IDK. It is same side inlet and outlet. Plus it's black for that sleeper turbo look [which appeals to me]. That was my original plan. Thanks guys for your help and opinions. This is what 6GC is all about after all. I priced a bumper from my local Toyota stealership, and they wanted like 300 or somthing like that for a 94 replacment. Ouch. I wonder what they'd want for a 96? Almost dont wanna know. Thanks guys. We will all be getting together again soon enough. If you go to Houston-imports there is a thread I started for another Hooter's meet. And yes Jeff of course you are invited with your Ram truck.
http://www.houston-imports.com/forums/show...641#post6696641 http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?act=ST...t=0#entry556562 Anyway back to topic: Playr, Bitchy, Pressure, Lagos, Tweak - what's the word? Will it work for now but not as effciently as a 12" should or will it straight up put harmfully hot air into my engine? If so should I just go with my Supra IC until I can afford a 6" tall one. And are 6" tall ones available with same side inlet and outlet? -------------------- ![]() |

Well, if you can fit it in there, I would say go for it. But honestly, if that's an eBay intercooler like I think it is, it's actually not that efficient, if it were ME, I would probably see what I could get for that intercooler by selling it, and then put that money towards a smaller, easier to fit, but more effective intercooler. We just turbocharged an '01 Corolla here, we're running a Garrett core intercooler that's probably 24x8x3, and it will cool like 450hp or something like that, and it's small enough to fit very easily in there. We made 222hp and 225tq on the dyno with it, 1.8 liter 1ZZFE, running 10lbs, GT2860RS turbo. -Doc -------------------- -Dr Tweak, 6GC's resident engine swap wiring expert extraordinaire Click here to see my swaps drtweak@phoenixtuning.com |

I resent the ebay intercooler remarks. its nice to say without proof. but my intake temps were hardly over 70 degrees after multiple 8200rpm 4th gear pulls. leaving the post intercooler piping cool to the touch. ive read that just as kraft makes generic mac and cheese for grocery store brand name food.
spearco, greddy, w/e the brand gets there cores from one of the few manufacturing plants, then weld there own end caps on, Brand it, then mark up price. its expansive to own a factory that makes these intercoolers. kinda like Berk having identical cores from the same company that makes the ebay intercoolers. same factory produces the cores. Just my .02 on intercoolers. -------------------- |

What should intake temps read aprrox? and whee would you take the reading? Can I just use a generic thermomter like the one you use to test the center of meat?
