lets stick to the topic just because you don't like the music means you can bash it.

you've probably never even heard some of the orginal emo bands..

like..

dashboard confessional - some of the best songs.

hahaha, just found this and thought it would go with this thread

IPB Image

there is a lot of other stuff out there that can help you express your feelings besides emo

ben kweller
elliott smith
ben folds

they are a little bit more mellow but really good and not filled with sappy crap like a lot of emo bands are

.02

whoa, just chill.....no need to get defensive now

i only live in los angeles

home of Hollywood, entertainment capital of the world

home of Capitol Records

home of American Idol

our radio hosts include ryan seacrest (102.7) and tom leykis (99.1) among others

you can be pretty sure ive heard of Dashboard Confessional somewhere. they are pretty mainstream here.

i just dont get how emo people say they hate people who are conformists, yet they contradict themselves by conforming to the same apparel. thats my only qualm.

other than that, im all for music. every kind. cept polka. and mariachi....

Dashboard is EXTREMELY mainstream. Same with Panic and Fallout Boy now unfortunately.

scene bands suck ass, you know what im talking about, tight ass pants, girl haircuts on boys, boy haircuts on girls, studded belts.

id like to think im pretty good at distinguishing between good and bad emo, i know bojangles in real life, we both listen to some bad emo, but we both listen to a lot of other stuff too. i can sympathize with him and the bad emo.

id say the most stereotypical bad emo is hawthorne heights, my chemical romance, aiden, etc.

emo is such a stupid genre, because theres so many sub genres, i dont even know who on my list id consider emo.

some really solid, good pop punk came out this year, all time low, hit the lights, a change of pace, cartel, this providence.

if you want some "express my feelings" emo then try the early november

if you want something upbeat and happy with some sad songs thrown in check out the rocket summer.

i hate name dropping so im gonna stop there, i really dont care who labels me based on my music taste because my collection is probably 10x more diverse than anyones here smile.gif

boys night out - NO!

QUOTE(mikeismad0408 @ May 16, 2007 - 4:24 PM)

hawthorne heights - YES
alexisonfire - NO
boys night out - NO
dashboard confessional - YES

Hawthrone heights and dashboard are like the definition of Emo. How are Alexis and BNO emo? Alexis and BNO arent emo at all. They dont have songs saying how bad they feel and how their life is terrible and how they are gonna kill them selves cuz their life sucks *even though thats only some emo songs*. Alexisonfire's songs all have meanings to them, like Boiled Frogs is about how George's dad lost his job and how his pention kinda crapped out on his and how its a pain in the ass. Its about how the country and gouvernment doesnt care about insodences like that and they happen all the time. Also BNO, if you have listened to any thing from Train Wreck or Make your self sick, theres no emo in that what so ever. Train wreck tells a story of a guy with mental health problems who commited him self into an instatution because he killed his wife in his dreams. Then the cd tells of his recovery in songs, hense why all the songs are called "Dreaming", "waking" "sentancing" "medicating". Etc. Ive met the guys in BNO and my friend actuall dated Connor when he was still in highschool. Ive been listening to them since they first released "Broken Bones and Bloody Kisses". They arent Emo in the slightest. Hawthrone and Dashboard are super emo.

And to add to the emo jokes, How many emo kids does it take to change a lightbulb?

None because they are all to busy crying in the dark.

haha ok valo, i thought that would be enough examples, but here we go:

"Baby, the blood's already been spilled
and no amount of crying
will wash the red from your guilty hands"

"I suffered through my potential, and didn't come back with anything substantial
I'm sorry, but I need saving... this horror, the perfect ending..."

"Hey, honey, hold my hand and hope for heaven
Because I just can't help myself.
Even angels end up burned and buried in my backyard...
And you, you're just like everyone else. "

"An I.O.U. tattoo strung along the finer rips and tears of your heart,
and it is there to keep you together while we're all falling apart"

all from make yourself sick

ill admit that the new album is LESS emo, but make yourself sick is as emo as it gets.

BNO is emo..

"The Fine Art Of Making It Out Alive"

"Kiss me on the forehead, angel, before I go to sleep. I can't remember if it's Thursday or December. I've been keeping track of days by counting hangovers and bottles on my floor. My mangled memory is making me bmistake misfortune for forgiveness. I don't think I'll make it out alive. So promise me that you'll survive to bury me. Just empty all the alcohol and chronicle the chemicals, but don't forget the cigarettes. Remember every ember. Alright, I admit that past few months were broken and abused. Now I'm used to the bleeding and unspoken words that kept me so confused."

pretty much that enitre passage from the song is emo..

"I can't remeber if its thursday or december.
I've been keepig track of days by counting hangovers and bottles on my floor"

that is emo, not rock, scremo, alt, its emo. although not everything they sing is emo, there are somewhat emo.

But none the less a very good band that i've been listing to since 2002.

However alexisonfire is not emo at all. They are strgith scremo. And an amazing band.. "Get Fighted" is a fu*king awesome song.
