I found a hatchback that I really like. Its two years older, but has less mileage than my car. Its very clean. Very minor problems. I live in Michigan so the top goes down very seldomly. Its fairly priced. There would be less insurance... What should I do? I hate to sell my convertible, but I think the hatchs look better. Please help me out. haha Oh yea, I forgot its a GT 5 speed.

i would never sell my Vert to buy a hatch , i personally think the convertible looks better ( exc. rear lights) , having a Vert is something else , i think you should keep it ..its always nice to drop the top and have an open air drive from time to time

I will definitely miss that, but keep in mind I can only do that for less than half the year. I would like some hatch owner opinions too. haha

Half aa year is better than none a year. A vert is more rare that a hatch. only a few were made, meaning even more rarer than the hatch. Hatches are nice, but this is me. If I would buy a second celica, it will be a blue convert. My daughter likes blue....

Maybe you should try switching the question. Would a Hatch owner trade for a vert? Why, Why not?

Youll get different opinions, in the end all that matters is your own. Why not have two? biggrin.gif

Half a year is better than none, but it seems like the other half I'm freezing in my car. haha

If only it were possible to afford 2. haha

It seems like everyone is selling verts for some reason though. When you search ebay most that are sold are verts.

I used to have a vert and I would like to have both, but unfortunately i sold my vert for a hatch. I like how it feels when your riding a vert openly.

I'm with you on hardly ever getting to put the top down. WA is not the best for convertibles, but when, on occassion, you actually do get to put the top down, it's soo soo nice! If you decided to sell the convertible and get a hatch, you might regret doing so sometime down the line. my .02

but it would be good to also get an opinion from some hatch owners on here as well...anyone..?lol

Oh, another thing I forgot was, if I do decide to sell, I think I'll have about $2000 to put into the hatch.

dodge viper and Ferrari 360

plus texas weather is so bad
there are like 2 days a year a vert would be good

i had a choice between a red vert with 65k miles or my current hatch with 52k miles when i first bought my celica. I choise the hatch because i dont like the insecuritys of the cloth top. And the extra hassel of the roof motors burning out.

Hey the hatch you are looking at, its not the one with 227,000 miles on it is it?? I would get a Hatch anyday vs. a vert for the reason of looks. Hatch looks way better imo. I don't really care about the car being rare.

Well the 2000 you'll have over for the hatch you can use to fix the e brake and antenna. I don't like the stock antenna anyway you might as well get the s2000 antenna and use the rest to upgrade the suspension. Or even turbo it. biggrin.gif wink.gif

Yea actually, (I'm still in the research stage), I was gonna turbo my vert... but now... it might be a hatch. haha Does the fact that I wanna turbo it change anything?

That antenna will be there for about 5 seconds. haha

vert's look nasty unless the top is down. And even then, it still doesn't have near the lines or flow of a hatch.

also, you won't have any wind-noise, and you'll have less parts to worry about replacing

I know it doesn't help but I think Verts are for girls. Kind of a childish statement but I don't think I could ever own a vert, t-tops and targas are the only manly open air I can think of lol.

it may just be me but i have never felt safe in a convertible. i ride with the moonroof (or sunroof, i still don't know the difference !?!?!) open and the windows down from march to december weather permitting. BTW i live in a northern coastal climate so a drop-top makes no SENSE to me either.

PS... the 'vert is not un-manly since it attracts the fairer sex like honey to a bear. a true trappers trap. :smiles:

I live in Charlotte... Its a really small town about 30 minutes south of Lansing. I would probably try to sell it for a little less than blue book value, just because I've put some things into it, and I replaced the rear window... but nothing is final and I'm not sure what I'm doin yet. haha

Hatch ftmfw....my honest opinion is go with the hatch. If you have to ask a question like this, that must mean that you arnt really sure if you like your vert or not. In that case, go with the hatch....so much sexier and i think just an overall better look. plus with that 2 grand, you can go on a little shopping spree for the celi.

basically everyone has hatchbacks though... rolleyes.gif you gonna be a conformist now? hehehe jk

I maybe only go drop top a grand total of 2 months throughout the year here in Washington, because its always so rainy and cold here. Probably the worst place ever to have a vert, but I wouldnt trade it for a lil hatchback. Convertibles are more fun I think... I may not go drop top that much, but when I do its basically amazing lol

i have a 96 hatch and a 97 vert. when i just had the vert, id be like man i really like the hatches (main reason being the tail lights). but now, it seems ive come to really appreciate the vert for what it is... bottom line is its up to your personal preference and they are both still celicas so u gotta love em either way!!

laugh.gif laugh.gif . Wow so many positive comments for the verts..

It really depends on your personal opinion.

Think about this. If you can come up with 10 reason of why not to trade the vert. Then you must love the vert. Otherwise go for a trade.

In my case, i can think of 25 right off the bat.

Number 1. I live in a sunny state.....

So make a list, and go for whatever your heart desires.

i love my Hatch! i just like the look of them so much better. i just don't like the looks of the vert. now i wouldn't mind a coupe if i could get a really nice kit on it but the verts just don't look the same. plus 2000 in your pocket to play! that and you have a stiffer chassis so it can handle more power.
do whatever your heart desires

I love my hatch simply cuz I just don't like owning a convertible in general.

There is nothing like dropping the top and driving around. Wind noise can be taken care of if you adjust the windows properly. I fell in love with this car the moment I saw it, and even though I do have much love for the hatchbacks and coupes, there is nothing like a convertible. Granted, having the top vandalized sucks, but any car can get vandalized. I think the benefits far outweigh the risks.

Well everyone... the hatch is gone. The guy sold it without telling me even though I wouldve paid more than what he sold it for. IVE HAD THE TOP DOWN 5 TIMES SINCE I POSTED THIS!!! haha There was a GST (eclipse) that was looking good for a little while, but I've decided to stick with the celi... They're just fun. haha

The reason I like my hatch so much and wouldnt trade it is bc it looks alot more sportier than the vert.
