Check the crank position sensor. On my Supra, the harness was dry-rotted and I accidentaly hit it with a wrench and one of the cables disconnected but it was still inside, so it looked fine. You could only hear a click when trying to start it.

Make sure all your grounds are good and are connected to a good piece of metal, without paint. I had the same issue with my swap and i think it was lagos who said check the grounds. I ended up finding one wire i didnt bolt to the tranny... and sure enough the engine turned over right away after i connected the wire.

Have you tried a different battery? The click is often a sign of a low battery...
Put a volt/multi-meter on the battery while you try cranking and see if the voltage drops a ton (and make sure it is over 12.5V with no load). -Charlie -------------------- 2003 Subaru WRX Wagon

If its once keep hitting it, Thats bad starter contacts. If its multiple times, its probably a bad battery. keep us updated |

kk today i figure out or i think i did..good points first i have spark..i can crank the motor manually..i have fuel pressure.nothing is leaking either..BUT!! the motor wont start..there has to be some power problems with the start module to the ignition..not sure what it is..grounds are connected right and tight..battery is brand new..ooh and it only click once.when i start or turn the ingintion.pictures are going to be posted up tomorrow of the clips and other stuff i think shouldnt be connected..have loose plugs that have no connection to it...

I had the single click when I had a bad ground (the connection on the trans was too loose).
When you say you can crank the motor manually, do you mean by jumping power to the starter directly? Is the circuit opening relay (next to the ECU) engaging when you try to start it from the ignition switch? This post has been edited by scothaniel: Jun 12, 2007 - 11:45 PM -------------------- Scott

Do you have the injector resistor pack in? Do you have power at the resistor pack when the key is at IGN2?
I'm not familiar with Dr. Tweaks modifications to the harness, but the stock system on the 3rd gen 3S motors goes like this: Power goes from the AM2 fuse, through the ignition switch (position #2) to the resistor pack (aka efi resistor) and on to the injectors. The ECU always supplies the ground to the fire the injectors. This post has been edited by scothaniel: Jun 18, 2007 - 12:42 AM -------------------- Scott

Unplug the 2 wire coil, injectior resistor, and the igniter. turn the ignition on and check to make sure you have 12 volts to all the above wires. This is assuming the 3rd generation is the same setup as 2nd generation. |

Ok, it looks like you have some 3rd gen connectors and 2nd gen parts.
The first plug is the starter trigger wire - it goes just above the big wire on the starter. Looks like you have a 3rd gen plug and a 2nd gen starter. The 4th pic is of the injector resistor pack connector (with all the black/orange wires), which explains why you dont have power at the injectors. I think the 7th pic is the resistor pack itself - I'll have to check my swaps to verify. You need to connect these two - or get the right injector pack to match the harness. I think the 6th pic is the connector which goes to a noise reducer for the coil. This post has been edited by scothaniel: Jun 21, 2007 - 2:17 PM -------------------- Scott

The third pic looks like a map sensor or cam position sensor. Look at the color of the wires and look in the wiring diagram. That may help. Also you can look at connectors in the ewd. I cant say for sure b/c my swap is a gen 2 |

I'm not sure what that 3rd pic is. It looks like it has 2 wires, so its not the map or distributer connectors, nor is it the TPS or Idle control. Wire colors would be helpful.
No luck on the connectors on my spare harnesses, sorry. Good luck finding a 3rd gen MR2 or ST205 injector resistor pack. You may just want to buy a couple of generic connectors connectors and use the resistor pack you have. The only difference between a 3rd gen and 2nd gen resistor packs are connectors. -------------------- Scott

pic 2 looks kinda like it may be for the pressure switch on your AC line.
pics 3,4 are almost certainly for the injector resistor pack. pic 6 may be for the fuel pump resistor but that's just a shot in the dark. There is a 3rd gen resistor pack for sale here: http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=43182 ![]() -------------------- ![]() Project ST204.5 99.88946% complete... |

Pic 6 is definitely a 2nd gen injector resistor pack, I have the same one on my ST185. Pics 3 and 4 are of the 3rd gen plug going to the resistor pack (which I have on my 6th gen). The fuel pump resistor pack only has 2 wires.
Like I said before, he has an injector resistor pack, it just has the wrong connector for the harness. Some cutting and crimping (or soldering) would have him up and running in an hour. BTW - I found a spare 2nd gen starter plug last night. It came with a bosch starter I bought a few weeks ago. So if your thinking about rebuilding your starter anyways, just go and buy the bosch, and you'll get the plug you need with it! Or I can send you the spare I have, you'll need to cut off the plug on your harness and solder this one in. just pay for shipping (from Michigan) and its yours. -------------------- Scott

Sorry man, I miscounted. I was looking at pic 7 when I said that, not pic 6. Your absolutely correct.
And toyotacrazy was right, pic 7 is the cruise control plug - I thought it was the 2nd gen injector resistor like whats in the middle of this pic: ![]() So I was way off - he'll need the resistor pack you posted earlier. I still say pic 6 is the noise suppressor plug (black / orange and white/black wires) This is the same part thats on the 7A and 5S motors too, sits right next to the ignitor. 6 may very well be for a noise supressor but I don't have one on my 94 GT 3S swap. I looked for it on my harnesses for quite a while until I decided it must be in the fuse box. I have no idea how it's done on the the 3rd gen 3S though.

The noise suppressor is about 3/4" around - the little white thing in between and just to the right the ignitor and the intercooler overflow tank in the picture above. Make sure that whole braket is well grounded. I used a special wire from there to the ground connection on the top transmission because I didn't have the stock holes in my firewall. -Charlie -------------------- 2003 Subaru WRX Wagon
