re-upholstering my seats, want some input into my idea Options

So, i decided im not feelin the sparcos that much any more, and i wanna go back to my stock seats, but my stock drivers seat has a nice rip down the side. So i figured, this would be a great time to re-upholster my seats and do somethin coustom with them. I dont wanna go out and pay some one to re-upholster my seats for me for like $1300, so i figured ill do em my self. I got a new un-ripped seat cover coming from Jeff *defgeph* and im gonna use it as a template for re-upholstering my seats. I was thinking of going with a 2 tone red and black, but i think its gonna look kinda ricey considering my car isnt riced out at all *any more..lol*. So i decided im gonna go with a black ultrasuade material to re-upholster the front and back seats, door skins, and headliner. Any ways, im thinkin just plain old black would b kinda boring, so im thinking of gettin some custom embroidered logos put into the seat and door skin material. Im either thinking of doing the TRD logo, or the celica dragon logo.

or get the seats with the trd logo like these ones



I would put the logo's the same place as the TRD ones on the front and back seats, and in the middel of the door pad on the doors.

What do you guys like better??

i dont know if your feeling this mix and match them maybe TRD logos everywhere else and have a big celica dragon logo in the middle of the back seat two tone i dont know if thatd be 2 hard just a suggestion

TRD looks alot more original and less ricey , i want to reupholster my seats myself too , so if you just right about your project as you go , that would be great , the how-to in the sticky is helpful with removal and refiting but isnt detailed about the sewing , cutting process , so it would be great if you can help me out with that !

ill probably be making templates on how to cut the material to make the different peices what peices are what, where they go, etc. Back seats r gonna b a bit trickier just because i dont have any spare seat covers laying around, im gonna have to take mine off and cut it up.

well , i am thinking of a future rear seat delete to turn my car into a 2-seater roadster ! , so the front seats are my main concern , my biggest worries about the whole thing is sewing all the peices together , i think it will be very tricky once a coule of peices are sewn together ... also what kind of string or whatever are you going to use for sewing ?

i donno yet...im gonna talk to my buddy back in Toronto when i head back there in 2 weeks that has done his interior, also im gonna ask my gf's aunt, she is the VP of a big fabric company here in canada, so she knows pretty much every thing about sewing.

For material, i just looked up in the phone book automotive upholstery places and went over to see them and asked for prices on material and to see some samples. For sewing, im lucky cuz my grandfather also was an upholsterer for a few years so hes gonna gimme a hand. Best thing to do, ask your friends, and ask around the site for some ppl in cali.

all i know is that will look hella tight once your done. so did you sell your sparcos yet?

I cant remember whos celica it is, if you look at the "post a pic of your interior thread", its under there. And as for the sparcos, not yet, im keepin em untill i get my seats re-upholstered. But they r for sale, just wont b able 2 sell em fully untill probably Julyish...i gotta wait for the seat cover from Jeff to come in, and then i gotta buy the material, get some new foam for my seat's bolster, send the center sections out to get embroidered and then sew it all up and install em. So its gonna take awhile.

x2 for the trd on the front and the celica dragon in the center back if you need rear seats..... i have my old ones i could possibly disassemble for ya, they are the tan color and are kinda nasty looking, which is why they got replaced, for my seats, the fronts were REALLY bad




i took some duct tape to them and got some seat covers to hold me over till i got around to re-upholstering them. theres some amish shops around here that have those computerized (go figure) sewing machines that embroider any image you load into it, and they are amish so they do it real cheap with excellent quality, i was SOOOO close to doing a celica logo or something on mine, but i had not seen any done like that before so i didnt do it, now i am contemplating gettin them done

no i don't believe so.....I got my leather seats out of a white hatchback and they fit just fine.

Maybe if mine turn out good i can get u a set of them whipped up Tina. After i get all the martial, costs, time, etc, ill see if i can make you a set. Maybe get like "Tinabell", then the dragon under it??

im plannin on making a bunch of templates for it. Im gonna sell em so that people can buy the material for them selves and cut it the way it they way they want. But it looks like i got more work for my self now. Me and Sarah are picking up a ST coupe in 2 weeks time and the interior in it is ok, but the one bolster support is pretty ripped up on the passanger side, so i gotta do mine, and hers now.

no progress yet...i have the material picked out already, but i still havent got my template cover from jeff yet. As soon as i get it, im gonna de-stich it and start workin on it.
