Well since I have gotten all the money from my insurence from the wreck. Its time to figure out what to do about a car. I mean I really like the celica and all, but I think that I want a 240sx. The reasons why I want one are: 1. RWD, 2. more power than a gt, 3. more boost friendly IE SR20DET swap, different styling on it, 4. these pics are also what made me think about it more.

those are what made me think more about it. I still have the kit and other stuff, so that wouldn't take me as long to get it back to where it was. If I get another 6th gen its more for sentamental reasons more than anything else. But the 240 is looking really sweet though, but I would have to put more money into the swap and other stuff to make it go fast. let me know what you think and tell me why you think it.

Well, its up to you. Either way, you have a boost friendly equation though. 3S-GTE or SR20DET....I like the 3S-GTE better. Plus, its not something you see everyday. The 240SX is a very nice choice, though.

I think the 240sx is the next best thing after a Toyota.

I understand what your sayin Bryan, the celica will still hold a special place in your
heart but I think we deprive ourselves if we dont taste what else there is out there
in the car world. I know that if my GT4 was trashed I might be in two minds whether
to try something new (since this is my second celica). If you see somethin you like
and she feels right go for it....

I used to have a 95 240sx and I loved it,but you should also buy a cheapy car before winter hits because they don't handle well at all in the snow. I would suggest passing up the 240sx and getting a 300zx. It shouldn't cost too much more. Also you should be able to find an early 90's mitsu 3000gt vr4 for around 12,000 dollars and would not ever be disappointed with it.

just because you have enough money to put a downpayment on a sweet brand new car doesnt mean you can keep up with the $300+ per month in car payments, plus insurance. you would be wiped clean.

My friend put 3 engines in his montero, 2 were the 3000gt VR4s, and both the VR4s blew a cyl. & the turbos aren't all that great either you need to upgrade and that engine has lots of problems, i know other ppl w/ them that have problems. Plus most ppl don't take care of their turbos, they rev the engines then cut it off and don't let the car rest for a minute so the turbo will unspoon. My uncle has a 88 Daytona CS edition, try finding one of those wink.gif

I like the 240sx my friend has one very nice car but toyota engines are the top of the line.

got 20K? snag yourself a DODGE NEON SRT-4 if you want to have some fun..

It's has a PROVEN 2.4L Turbo Engine <-- iron block..

The MOPAR STAGE 1-3 upgrades are covered the the 7 year powertrain warranty

0-60 in 5.1 seconds - 220-240 WHP <--- YES WHP STOCK (Dodge underrated it by stating it's 215 CRANK HP)..

The '04 will have an LSD smile.gif

I should have bought one instead of my spec frown.gif Cost me the same once I put a turbo on mine..

It's internals can definitely take the abuse, alot of peeps are wondering if the QR25 can even handle 250 WHP properly (SPECV/Altima 2.5L engine).

change the front bumper and the sideskits and it will kinda look like a 4 door celica hatcback smile.gif

What about a 2nd gen MR2 turbo. You should be able to get one for around $8,000. 3S-GTE mid engine rear wheel drive. I'm thinking about traded my Celica for one right now.

If you for sure want to try something new, I'd say go for the 240sx or a 300zx. Both very nice cars, with lots of potential, speed & looks wise.

Awww...c'mon. It's still a NEON. I'm partial to the MR-2 3sgte myself. My friend was thinking about getting one but then changed his mind.

As for stickin in the family. I know this guy who works at a tool store that owns two miatas, one boosted. One guy who lives across from my friend owns three firebirds. One of my fomer bosses drives nothing but mercedies, and my girlfriends entire extended family drives nothing but Toyotas.

I considered the 240sx, but I definitly didn't know anything about cars at the time when I bought my Celica. I choose it over the 240 just cause it looked sooooo goooood. Knowing what I know now and being able to perform a swap, I know I'd still make the same decision.

If you wanna try something different why not the rx-7? I hear you gotta rebuild the engine ever 4k, but I'm sure if you take care of it it'll be fine. Rotary engines are crazy too.

Well guys, some of you all have some good ideads and points. Now about the SRT-4 sorry but I don't care if its got a killer engine, its still a domestic and a neon. Matt, Tim covered preaty much waht I would of said. Now on the Duce Turbo, I like them but finding one in my price range that has decent miles on it is hard really hard. boibleu22, the sides have already been spoken for if i don't get another one. I will stick around here to help out. Plus I have some stuff that I will probably be selling. But the potental on the SR is just about the same as the 3s from what my research has found.

It's still a NEON but in LOOKS only as the *DRIVETRAIN* is totally different <-- isn't the drivetrain what's important?

As for being domestic, alot of peeps believe this is a car done right..

Get a 1G AWD DSM. Those cars were built with on thing in mind... Speed. Not to mention the 6 bolt 4G63 is a very stout engine.

Yeah its slow but its faster than the gt's. Im gona see what happens in the next few months. Im hoping to have about another 3k saved up by my birthday in Nov, so hopefully I can have a car by then. Also if I can get a total of 10k then I can get a 97-98 240 which has different headlights and taillights to it. But it will manly look stock untill I 1. either get a SR20 or 2. I decide to go for looks and a little better preformance if its got lower miles. But untill then I will still be around here and lurking the 240 boards.

when i was getting my car, i was actually about to buy a 95 S14 Nissan Silvia with SR20DE (but auto cos i couldnt find any manuals and i needed a car cos mine got totalled and i needed to get to work and i won't bus).
The auto was slow as, but a manual SR20DE is probably just a bit slower than an SSII or ZS Curren. the interiors arent as nice as Celica/Currens and they 2 i test drove felt quite loose in the body and a guy i know has one and his feels loose too. and then i found the curren and forgot about the silvias ;-) im actually not really a fan of RWD, i quite like FWD actually. FYI my other mate has a 96 JDM Integra sedan with 5sp and 1.8 vtec. SR20DE Silvia vs 3SGE Curren/Celica vs Teg vtec would basically depend on driver and launch over 400m. BEAMS SSIII would piss all over all of them however.

i reckon it'd be cool if you got a Celica hatch, and got a front cut for a 3SGE Curren and had like a Sil80 but for Curren/Celicas. But then if my car got totalled i wouldnt get the same car again just cos i liked it, there are too many decent cars out there that i would like to own to have the same car twice.

sorry for crapping on tongue.gif

Hey man. Are 240's imported to US or sold from dealerships? The reason I ask is that they are everywhere over here, and although there are the odd beautiful specimens around, they are really a teenage ricer car. I won't complain about the engine - the SR20 is a serious engine - like all nissans. But I've driven one, and as someone else said they feel loose, almost like a big box of plastic wrapped around a chassis. I don't want to put you off, but I fully recommend going and testdriving one well before you make the decision.

I vote for a 300 - they are so much nicer and look unreal with a decent bodykit. Before I knew as much about cars I used to class them in the same category as ferrari's and lambos - just because I saw one that took my breath away!

Just promise me that b4 you buy you spend a lot of time testdriving all sorts of cars, its pointless to rush into these things biggrin.gif

PS. And try to enjoy the experience that wiping out your celi has opened up for you!

insurance on 300zx tt's is ridiculous tho.

get a 240 man. it will have the k engine, but you can always swap.

one of my uncles has a 1992 240sx with the vlsd rear end.

it is a fun car to drive but, there are things about it that make me like my celica a lot more.

the suspension is VERY VERY stiff. i feel every ant i run over in that thing. the s13's arent that good looking, the s14's are ok and the 97-98 240's look good.

the car is not fast either, but it is fun to drive being that it is RWD. i think it is on par with a celica GT, maybe a bit faster. but it is crazy on the freeway!!!!! while the car in an auto, i have pegged the speedo in 3rd gear!!(the speedo goes to 110-115) the car, with a ecu upgrade will go to i think 150 or something like that. after 60mph the car just does not stop pulling

the sr20det is a great engine. its light and makes good power and, like the 3sgte, can be built to 400hp on the stock internals.

but the car sucks in the rain. i think it has to do with the stiff suspension of the s13(s14's have slightly softer suspension and weigh more) it just loves to lose traction, even when im careful not to.

dont buy older mitsu turbo cars, millions of problems waiting to happen. a 300zx TT is expensive to insure(as well as a 240)

too bad you couldnt afford an STI, but either way, i would not buy a car that the dealer wont let you test drive till after you have signed your first name on the papers.

i went to miller mitsubishi with my dad to see his friend(the sales manager there) and to test drive an evo8. we were not able to drive it. but, trading in my car, i could have gotten the evo 8 for $265 a month. i could afford that, but um, double that and thats the price i would have to pay for insurance a month, lol.
