hey all, i was looking online at some 3sgte clips and noticed how much cheaper the mr2t clips are then the gt4 clips that and i wouldn't have to get the tranny separate.
i know that there are some things diff between the gt4 3sgte and the mr2 3sgte. my Q is how much will have to be changed to drop it in my car? i have the gt so (from what i understand) i won't need to change the motor mounts. but other than the normal 3sgte swap stuff what extra will be needed to put the mr2 motor in? if there is a thread about this already and someone know where it is please point me in the right direction. thanks guys -------------------- |

You will need ST205 motor mounts if you decide to go with the MR2 transmission (E153). You will also need custom axles (Camry/ST185 outters, MR2 inners).
Or you can just use your S54 transmission on the stock mounts and stock axles. -------------------- |

Edit: 0k i see what you were saying about the mounts. they would be for the tranny. could i use the mounts from the mr2? you'll need mounts to support the tranny, most of your mounts can be use, and that's in the case you decide to go with the MR2 tranny, if you keep your GT tranny there is no need for ST205 rear mount

so it sounds like even though it sounds cheaper it really isn't? or just a pia? what looked so enticing to me was that i could get both motor and tranny that would work great for a good price. ok, i will def take that into consideration.
i am so undecided on what to do. i can't decide on going turbo or na. ARGH!!!!! -------------------- |

Its more work to do the E153 swap. If time is money it won't be cheaper.
If you get an ST185 clip and use your S54 transmission it will be cheaper. You dont NEED to change your transmission. This post has been edited by Supersprynt: Jun 27, 2007 - 10:25 AM -------------------- |

the shorter gearing in the gt will make for a faster car then the longer gearing in the 153.

The GT tranny runs out of go on the top end, its very noticable, at least for me it was.
With the E153, you can spread it out over a longer period of time. So while the S54 has the shorter gears, you go through them faster, and run out of steam quicker. I very much like the E153 more in that respect. This post has been edited by Supersprynt: Jun 27, 2007 - 7:58 PM -------------------- |

I honestly did not notice much of a difference between the s54 and the e153 trannys. Then again my s54 was with a 5sfe and my e153 is linked to a 3's so obviously the top end power is different, and maybe that is why I do not notice the difference in transmissions as much. I would agree that the s54 is shorter geared, and you do burn through gears quicker, but it also increases your acceleration. I thought it was a good combo for a stock gt (short tranny gears w/ low end tq)

I really enjoy my E153 - though I'd still rather have lower gearing... I'd rather cruise at 75mph on the freeway at 3krpm instead of 3.5krpm. Heck, I was at 3krpm at 80mph with my original S51 manual transmission. ![]() -Charlie -------------------- 2003 Subaru WRX Wagon

Will the stock GT transmission handle the power of the 3sgte? It would really suck to go through all that work and then have the tranny blow out and have to go through all the hassle of pulling it out again. . . I know i have read that people have had their GT tranny mated to the 3sgte for a few years with no problems. Whats the consensus though?
