Yesterday I sold the Celica, and it was very sad, but today I got my new car.

I got a '93 Del Sol S. This is no "Del Slow" however. It's got a H2B swap (H22A mated to a B16 tranny) and all kinds of goodies. It's got some Advan SA3R 15" wheels with Falken Azenis tires, Buddy Club coilovers in back with custom rate springs, and Koni Yellows on unknown coilovers (they look like Ground Controls though) in front. smile.gif

Motorwise, the bottom end of the JDM H22 is stock, but the head was rebuilt with Skunk2 valves, seals, springs, and retainers. The tranny was rebuilt with new stacks, synchros, bearings, and a Kaaz LSD. The car has a lightweight flywheel and ACT 6 puck unsprung clutch, which is difficult to get used to but grabs really well. Bolt-ons include an Injen header, FPR, JDM long-tube header, Hasport mounts, and ported intake manifold.

The car is basically stock outside and in. The interior is missing some pieces here and there, but is in generally good shape, and the paint on the outside is in great shape.

On with the pics. The car is filthy from the long drive home, back to Ellensburg, then back home again, but I had to at least snap a few pics.

IPB Image

Advan wheels...soon to be sold. smile.gif

IPB Image

Bad pic. Sorry.

IPB Image

The interior. Del Sol seats are really comfy.

IPB Image

Yes, that's a H22 sticking through the hood. Many H2B swaps suffer from similar problems, but it will be remedied soon. smile.gif

IPB Image

Another H22 shot. I'm swapping valve covers, plug wires, and oil pans with my buddy on Wednesday hopefully before he sells his H22.

IPB Image

The bay in all its glory. It's no tucked Yelli Celi bay, but perhaps I'll begin tucking some stuff soon. wink.gif

Oh, by the way, this car is fast. It flies through the close-ratio gears like nothing I've ever driven before, and runs beautifully. biggrin.gif

The previous owner ran a 13.1 his only time out to the track with the car. And that was without this:

IPB Image

biggrin.gif

My plans include throwing my Fat Fives on it (Advans are awesome but are a magnet for thieves, and can be sold for $$$), fixing the little things wrong with it, doing some work on the bay, doing something about the hood, maybe a front lip and different sideskirts, and upgrading the alarm to something even better, for now. smile.gif

I know everyone is sad to see the Celica gone (I am too), but this car is really a great car. What do you guys think?

thats pretty wicked, someone around here has an h22 swap in their del sol. however i dont like him.. his engine was horribly mounted and it fell through the bottom hah. good luck with another project car man, its bound to be fun.
you just have GOT to do something with that custom hood scoop... err whatever you want to call it.
haha :-p

What we all want to know is whether the yelliceli got sold to a 6gc'er.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

First off, id like to say how AWSOME your New del sol is. And say how AWSOME your celica was.
Second, IMHO a del sol is the ONLY sport compact id get rid of my celica for...period no discussion.

A buddy of mine put an Integra GSR motor (b17 is about 160hp w/ vtec) into his del sol, and that thing was "fast". But an H22.....that will have like WarpSpeed written all over it. The car weighs like 12pounds (sarcasm), and with 200ish ponies (not counting the obvious mods) that will be a beast.

^I love this. So much power the hood cant even contain it. lol

Good Luck. Hondatech is getting a good guy.

edit: and Coomer, if u want to keep the advans (and not get them stolen..) get like 3 different types of locking lugs, what theif is gonna waste there time on 3 or 4 differnt types of lugs, and 4 different wheels.

looks good coom. H22s are good motors if they r built right. you can get plenty of power out of em. My buddys got a 500WHP H22 powered 4door civic...hes got 350WHP just on the motor alone, the rest is on spray...mind u its a H22/3 hybrid motor with more money dumped into the engine that whats been dumped into my car over the last 2 years. But congrats man, we r gonna miss the yeli celi, but i wanna c what you got instore for this one.

I use that techinique, someone tried to steal my 17's when I had them and they just gave up.but I know some other thief that if they can't get the wheels off they take the whole car kindasad.gif so that may bite you right back.

Congrats on your new car Coomer.

That car actually looks quite sweet! I can see why you like it - it does look a bit like a Toyota/Lexus relative - not a sibling but perhaps a first cousin?

I especially like the rims and the headlights. The headlights make it look a bit like the Soarer. I'm not keen on the taillights (the Spyder Del Sol tails look okay to me) and the seats might be comfy but they don't do anything for me either. But the biggest thing I noticed was just how crowded that engine bay looks after your Celica biggrin.gif

Well it should certainly be an interesting journey - I hope you'll take us all along for the ride wink.gif A couple of questions:

1. Any idea how much your Del Sol weighs?
2. Anyone put a H22 into a Celica or a 3SGTE into a Del Sol? I'd love to know how the motors themselves compare, stock to stock (or tuned to tuned).

Kudos on the pics. Finally, lets see some more pics of the interior and please let us know how it drives.

Dont think you can compare a 2.2 Liter N/A engine against a 2.0 Turbo.

The H22 makes 185-200 bhp right?

H22 is rated at 190hp. and thats from a JDM Prelude 92-00

edit: with his top end mods, hell be pushing at least 200 at the wheels.

Okay, so somewhere between the 3SGE and 3SGTE in terms of power. Very interesting. Is there a turbo equivalent of the H22?

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm already hard at work working on the hood and stuff.

I'll have to weigh the car, but stock it weighed in at under 2300 lbs. Now I'm sure it's heavier though.

And the car made 201 whp on the dyno by the way. smile.gif

f20c alone is 230hp at the crank

so i guess thats close to a 3sgte. toss a turbo on it run 8 psi and ull out do a 3sgte easy.

Nice car Coom! I bought a Del Sol new back in 93 - it was a blue Si.
It was completely stock when I sold it in '99 to buy my Celi 'vert!
I loved it except for an annoying "thunk" in the targa every time I turned.

you cant compare that motor to a 3s. the 3s will clearly make more power. but the thing that will make his del sol quick is the fact that it has 200whp... swapped into a go cart.

Sad to see the celica go, but you got yourself a quick little car that handles really well. I hope you don't plant to do any big audio upgrades or re-wiring is in order. Stock del sol wiring blows lol.

If you get rid of the wheels, get another set of azenis. Just a great tire for the money, especially if you're not going to be running it as a daily driver. Otherwise, treadwear will eat up your wallet pretty quick wink.gif

I liked the Celi better, but you haven't put your hand to this one yet. I have faith in you, young grasshopper biggrin.gif

That engine/tranny combination in that tiny car scares even me, guys im sure his h22 would walk all over my 3sgte with his b16 tranny...its a killer combo, I lost to a similar swap in a 93 hatchback, and it ran 12.3 in the 1/4~!!
