so my radiator cracked and i'm looking for a new one. but had a couple questions

For those using the all aluminum racing radiator (R1958), how many of you actually changed the thermostat/water pump (whatever else is needed) to achieve lower temps?

Koyo also makes an OE replacement (A1575) that has a copper core and plastic tank. does anyone have this? is this as thick as the all aluminum one?

and i'm just deciding on which to get. i read a few old posts and it seems like most people with the R1958 all alum radiator don't change anything else, so it seems like they aren't taking advantage of the better cooling anyway.

so i'm wondering if i should just get the OE replacement one for about 1/2 price. (i will be going 5sfte soon)

My radiator was cracked too. I just bought a Silla radiator for my 5sfe for $126 and I'm happy with it! I didnt change the thermostat or anything like that.

It appears that many 6gc radiators eventually crack. i replaced my radiator and replaced the thermostat because i thought it was convenient to do at the time.

i think that you should just go with the aluminum. if it means better cooling then i think u should take advantage of it. i literally replaced my radiator today cuz i had the same problem (hairline crack next to cap) n i just got one from a radiator shop. not alum, but its all good cuz i got a shatacular 7afe

your fans and brackets will bolt onto the new radiator, and it includes a radiator cap. but honestly, I noticed no difference at all with the aluminum radiator. I changed my thermostat too, but I just put in an oem replacement.

also, if you are going 5sfte, know this, I have the thicker aluminum radiator and it takes up a bit of much needed space. I had to cut a corner off one of the brackets for one of the fans in order to get the turbo to fit in place, and also now my oil filter relocation lines are pretty close to the fans... you can use it, for sure, but it makes space a little tighter and doesn't really do anything besides look good.

ah, that's good to hear, i read a bit on honda-tech how people had to buy new fans and how they didn't come with caps or if they did the psi rating on them was too high.

yea, i had talked with shin before since he had a 5sfte w/ teh all alum as well.

i'm not sure if the canton racing 90degree rotating adapter will help keep the oil lines further away from the rad fan blades but that's what i'll be using for the relocation

i just don't want to buy a radiator that will crack/leak again so i'm still debating on what to buy

Probably within the next few months I am going to get a Koyo radiator for the Yelli Celi... just to match up with the whole look of the engine bay. tongue.gif

think about it, your radiator took like 10 years to crack, so if you just get an oem replacement, it probably won't crack for another 10 years.

btw, I am using the canton racing 90 degree rotating adaptor. if you are going to use it and an aftermarket downpipe, be sure to get some 45* or 90* hose ends or AN to NPT adaptors in order to keep your lines from hitting the downpipe.
