actually, i did. but, yet again they're near identical engines so saying 4afte'er isnt quite as the in crowd tongue.gif
on a follow up on the 4afe swap, i've had a run with another friend of mine who owns a 97 celica st, and im quite impressed on how much quicker the 4afe is to the 7afe

and if u were wondering its japanese spec 4afe, which is rated @ 115 hp @6000 rpm (which is identical to the US spec 7afe), i have yet to find the torque numbers for the 4afe japanese spec, but in all the places i've read about the make of 4afe its naturally a much torquier engine due to its narrow valve angle.

side note : engine miles - 39,428. she's a youngin' smile.gif

so i came down to boost control. only two routes to go, manual or electronic. feel free to post what route i should go.
going in tomorrow to talk to brian from autometrics, the local dyno/tune shop. i just swung by there today to check things out! the owner had a Porsche 911 Turbo running @ 512hp. jealous much? aye!

i did some research on the Garrett Airesearch T3 Turbo, came out of a lotus espirit - runs to ~23 psi just fine which is well within my goals of 200 hp.
with a 40 trim .42 a/r compressor wheel and standard T3 trim .48 a/r turbine wheel.

but no one thinks this 200 hp is too high of a goal? cuz i have nearly an identical build to a corolla with a us spec 4afe that made 214hp on 14psi and ran strong for about 2 years on that same boost.
i wont be boosting nearly close to that to daily, probably 7psi.
14psi for track days.

Question: would the Walbro 255lph pump for a SC400 (part number# GSS 342) be a direct fit, and is 107$ a fair price for this? (after shipping)

i read the stickie on the right one, i was just double checking tongue.gif

also, should i get an FPR?

pictures of my new goodies will come later on today ::

im not sure what brand the A/F gauge is - i bought it off the same guy who i bought the turbo off of. its a single wire o2 sensor A/F gauge. its basically a light show tongue.gif
as for the header, im not sure. as for fitment on the 20v, the only difference between the 4age 20v and the 4afe 16v is the head. not like ur only 2 hours away to check if u wanted!

i've had thought of going with a full autometer gauges instead of what i was going with.... im looking at the prices of Phantom Autometer with a full range sweep for boost. and electrical gauges for wideband o2 sensor and EGT gauge 0-1600F. i dont really know the prices at this time - i can bet their spendy tongue.gif

also,
i went down the Les Schwab and got a price quote on brand new toyo proxy r1's (i think thats the name) really sticky tires wink.gif for my 17" rims. ~$500 dollars for all 4.

maybe for next summer when i saved up money i would have gotten 2 semi slicks for the front.

Quick little bump for Aaron...

I went to the local junkyard and scored a 4AFE oil pan from a later corolla for a -10 an fitting... complete with rod fragments and other sharp little metal shavings. thumbsup.gif

I brought it home and drowned it in a whole lot of gunk.

There were a lot of surface scratches and the pan looked real ugly, so I gathered up various grit sandpaper and started cleaning it up and prepping for some paint (which will come after the oil return line fitting is installed), but I kind of liked it the way it is... provided I have more than an hour with it again.

Hand sanding ftw
IPB Image

edit - Aaron, when you get the package (Thursday) make sure you don't throw out my shop towel... I'll be coming for it! tongue.gif

that oil pan looks like it would be way easier to find a good spot to tap into than the 7afe 2piece pan.

I'm soooo great....I mean blind !

he doesn't have a wideaband which would be great to have to monitor the A/F ratio, but is not nessesary to have everything working properly.

Good luck !

You should talk to Lagos about the IC mounting. I don't remember where I saw it, but he explained an inexpensive way to mount it level.

you and you're stinky 4age! we need to have a go at it before i turbo it, so i can show you the awesome power of 4afe. less valves = awesome. hahah @.@
neways, i spent 3 hours today filing-sanding-polishing my bov flang bit of my intercooler piping, tomorrow i get started on my oil pan! with the bung welded on it.
he he - im sorry matt! i'm just putting a little work into it... you can finish it if you want to ! <3 cuz im sure u'll do a better job

(side note) my injectors are scheduled to arrive here on the 18th! haha woo cutting it close eh ! ;D talk about some suckage if it goes late. i will still do the build/tune neways reguardless if i get them, i will just have to install the 12:1 FMU in hope of some increase in fuelage, for the time being - but i will most likely recieve the new 380cc injectors and not have to worry.

Alright kiddies. I got here at 11PM Friday and we got to work. It is now 5:30AM and we're wrapping up for now. We have done everything we can until the stores open.

First things first... pull the battery and exhaust manifold.
IPB Image
We then drained the oil!

IPB Image
Once out we had plenty of room to set up the oil filter relocation kit...IPB Image

Here is where we are mounting it. (thats the passenger side)
IPB Image
Next was fitting the turbo manifold. This was a little complicated, as the manifold would hit the alternator bracket, so we took a file/grinder to the corner and were able to get it on fine.
IPB Image
While all of this was happening, Aaron was underneath pulling the oil pan.

And this is how she sits now.

Alright, I'll post earlier today...

Well we went to sleep at like 7 this morning and we rolled out off the couch at 11 and got back to work..

So we start our day...
IPB Image

Aaron went to pull out the stock fuel pump and put in the Walbro pump... but the d*** thing is not loosening up for no one. We all got back in there and had a shot at it! We used, WD40, Liquid wrench, and PB blaster... Not moving.
IPB Image

So we make a few phone calls... please disregard Robert's obscene gesture in the background. laugh.gif
IPB Image

And we move on to the IC mounting.
IPB Image

And make it pretty...
IPB Image

And then we took a break. tongue.gif
IPB Image

Bumper test fit..
IPB Image

And we finally got the stock oil pan off.
IPB Image

And the new one installed.
IPB Image

Thats what we have as of now. We'll be working on it until the wee morning hours, so I might update this again in a bit.

EDIT: apparently I'm logged in AS Aaron...

Were you burning oil before you replaced the oil pan? If so, did the burning stop after you replaced it?

I don't think he burned any oil before.. who knows if he will after because we are still waiting on a few parts...

We have been cutting some IC piping and getting what we can set up for that. We clocked the turbo to make things a bit easier as well.

Now, do you think the oilpan is one of the "oil burning" problems with the 7afe, i remember my mechanic told me its either there or the seals on i think the valves, or pistons...dont remember exactly...

a some what update - without pictures.

i got the fuel pump out. i cut the fuel line off from the outlet. i will later show pictures on how im going to fix it - if neone runs into the same problem.
we did some IC piping work. i have to get ride of the windshield washer fluid reservoir frown.gif meh! oh well i never use it neways.
i did more clocking of the turbo.
earlier, we removed one radiator fan on the passenger side - i later (by myself) realized i needed to instead remove the passenger side, to remove the driver side. so i put the passenger side fan back on and took the driver side off.
the reason for this was the intercooler charge pipe was in the way biggrin.gif
also, i bolted up the oil pan all the way on.
- starting to remove the intake manifold to get ready to put the new injectors in.
- already have much earlier put the mr2 2bar map sensor in.
-cutting the bumper some more so the intercooler piping will fit (oh joy!)

I'm on my dialup so I'm not going to even try to upload the shots of the clocked turbo and all that jazz.

Did you put the fuel pump back in yet?

alrightttt, now for some nice updating.
well i put everything together - minus the greddy emanage.
was gonna do a preliminary prime and to see if it would even start, well it started!!!
and then my o-rings blew on my injectors.
can you say mmm i love the smell of gas in the morning?
neways i tore apart the intake manifold took them out and am currently looking for a fix to this problem (per the o-rings were slightly too small before, now im looking for the same size inner-diameter o-ring but a bigger outter-diameter o-ring.

good news: no other leaks and it runs @ idle speeds (atleast for the 8 seconds it was started) hooray! and it sounds sweeeet, the turbo spins quite freely.

Dont think that would work to good, since the bars are exactly right in front of the IC. So if you look in an angle (left/right) you would see the rods alot better then they do now.

i should get pictures going but im so busy with school and work that i keep forgettting when i crack down on the car.

2 nights ago i got ALL of the problems fixed. the car is running and can move - untuned. its running very very rich outside of the wideband o2 sensor range (which is much better than being lean imo) but i made the slow journey to exhaust shop yesterday noon and thats where it still is right now getting basically a straight thru with a muffler on the end (high flow cat + silencer) so it should be good! will get the G EMU in today or tomorrow.

well, bad news. the turbo decided to go - i guess the person i bought it from lied to me.... all the seals were blown. maxes boost out at 7 psi and leaks mad oil.... need a new turbo now (probably be cheaper instead of buying a rebuild kit)
new turbo
and pressure orfice in the future.

suggestions would be great.

This time get the t3 super 60 turbo. You can get pretty good deals for them and its perfect for the 1.8 liter motor. Check out dezodmotorsports for that turbo, you should be able to get a good deal.
