im looking @ getting autometer's Phantom I series w/ wideband o2 gauge, -30 vac/30 boost gauge, and 0-1600 deg EGT gauge.
my question is - the wideband o2 gauge is like 350... is it really required for tuning purposes? or can i go with narrowband. -------------------- the 1/4 doesnt have patience for a ST.... so we make them ST-T's so atleast we'll sound good going slow.

Personally Im going AEM uego, there was a post somewhere on here and it got decent reviews for the price. Having a wideband is alot better then not having one for tuning because the narrowband really isnt going to help you tune at all.

i got the innovate LC1 kit and then instead of buying their overpriced gauge i got a prosport digital A/F gauge and it should hook right up to the wire on the LC1

A wide band is not required for tuning purposes. People did perfectly fine tuning years ago before the wide band ever came out.

People did perfectly fine tuning years ago before the wide band ever came out. yeah, on 8cyl motors with a carb. you would just turn a screw untill it smelled rich, and that was that. in a day where 4cyl fuel injected motors are making more power then the v8s, you NEED a wideband for tuning. get the aem uego, if you want a gauge or the invoative, if you want something that can log. stay away from narrowbands. Again, you do not NEED one. EGTs and other guages will help you out just fine. It may not be as perfect as a wideband but again you do not NEED one. -------------------- |

It may not be as perfect as a wideband but again you do not NEED one. you cannot be serious. are you gonna argue that you can effectivly tune a car, on and off boost, for complete driveability, reliability, and power, WITHOUT using a wideband? (in a modern day car anyway..lol) ![]() to the OP: ask anyone worth theyre salt in tuning what they would have when properly tuning a car. most of us here, and several of the best 3sgte tuners in the country use widebands. now, is it neccicary to have one installed in the car at all times? no. if you have a load bearing dyno near you, (most shops will have at least a tailpipe sniffer wideband) you can tune for both on and off boost, and not need to actually have one of your own. as you turn up the boost, or made mods to the car, it would be best to go back and retune at that point. a few times like that will easily cost you as much as a wideband will in 99% of the citys in the country, unless you know someone who can get you dyno time for free..lol -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)
