My girlfriend and I went skydiving a couple weekends ago, it was definitely one of the coolest things I have ever done. It was what she wanted to do for her birthday. We had to take a class first and then did a static line jump from 3000 feet. Four more and we can do a freefall from 10,000 feet, I can't f'ing wait for that smile.gif.

I want to do that very much. Did you have to do a tandem jump first?

No pictures of the jump, I didn't think my camera would fly too well. We didn't do a tandem jump first, although you can. If you just want to do it once and have the experience I would say just do the tandem jump. We want to be able to do freefalls ourselves and work our way up to getting our USPA A license and the fastest way to do that was take the course and start with the five static line jumps.

Theres a place around where I live too where you can sky dive, but A few years back a lady fell and her chute didn't open. She survived but now shes a vegetable.
I believe she did it on her birthday too. Sucks to be her, and she didn't get any money or anything cuz they make you sign a waiver.

Soulshadow: Do you mean Shayna Richardson? I've read up a little bit on her. From everything I can read it seems like her chute did open properly but she just didn't have the experience to correctly fly it. Also, she isn't a vegetable, broke her face up, broke her pelvis and I believe shattered her legs but she ended up fine. Plus they found out at the hospital she was pregnant (kid delivered just fine).

I paid $350 total for the class and first jump for Jess and I ($175 each). Static line jumps are now 60 dollars each and after 4 more our first freefall will be free. Freefalls are then 40 dollars each to start with and go down in price as you get more experience. Once we have our licenses it costs about 7 dollars a jump plus 1 dollar for every thousand feet. Illinois is not $3,000 dollars to jump $125.

I'm really surprised you didn't have to tandem the first one. Here in NY I don't think your allowed to jump alone when you have no experience.

Supersprynt: It depends on the route you want to take. To do the solo static line jumps we had to take a course that was about 4 and a half hours first. To do the tandem jump you only have training for under an hour since the instructor is strapped to your back. I was googling a little bit and I think it is the same in New York, it just depends on what company you jump with and the equipment setups they have.

2

The company in the first link there has the static line course, but I don't think the second company does. I am definitely encouraging everyone I know to go do this.

Yea I think that was her name.
Sucks to be her tho. The thought of skydiving and falling without your chute open is such a nasty thought.
