Hey guys, i've started saving up some money to get a bit of engine work done to my Celica. Currently just have a near factory 3S-GE that runs mint as, and am trying to decide whether to Turb it or make it a quick N/A (to be a bit different). At the moment i'm leaning towards the BOOST option since it would seem that i'd get more performance per $$ spent. What parts would I need to get turbo running. Just wondering what the rest of you would do??

Build... then boost.

What type of driving will you be doing?

What are your power goals?

Do you have a second vehicle?

I've got a Ford Laser for my work/river hack car. Use my Celica just for cruising round on the weekends or whenever. Between 50 - 100 HP gain is what i'm after, not too extreme just enough for a bit more power.

Would even consider supercharging. Whatever gives the most gain for the amount of cash i pay. Less is best! (Money wise that is!)

Money wise = source all the 3S-GTE goodies and turbo the sucker. scothaniel also turbo'ed his 3S-GE using a ST205 ECU.

Sounds like a plan. What parts from a 3S-GTE would I need to get it up and running?

Sounds like a pretty fun project. The 3SGE is a very stout motor and will take to turbocharging really well.

I would look at the BGB's for both engines and figure out which parts to swap over to make the car run on the ST205 ECU, or perhaps scothaniel can provide you with a more detailed list. This would be an excellent route though, this way you have a solid and accurate fuel tune, plug and play.

OEM Parts to consider from the ST205 are:

-ST205 ECU
-Complete harness, or overlay the wiring diagrams and just add on the wiring that isn't present on the 3SGE harness thats needed to run the 3SGTE ECU.
-Any additional sensors (Turbocharging VSV, MAP sensor, etc.)
-3rd gen 3SGTE CT20B turbo and manifold
-ST205 Fuel Pump, or TT Supra/Walbro 255LPH.
- ST205 side-feed fuel rail and red-top injectors
- Throttle body? Distributor? etc.

I would definately talk with scothaniel from these boards about his setup, he could probably steer you in the right direction more so than the rest of us, but thats a general idea of what you'll need to get started.

Good luck. smile.gif

Thats his profile, just PM/E-mail him.

He's not very active on the board at the moment.

Well I've PM'd him so hopefully get a reply. Would an aftermarket turbo manifold for 3S-GTE's fit? Found some good ones on Trademe (New Zealands EBay). Should have a couple thousand $$$ in the next couple of weeks so that should cover most of the parts hopefully. I'm guessing most 3S-GTE aftermarket parts would fit my engine like Intercooler kits etc?
