I am in my 2nd year of a Motive Power co-op program at St. Clair college in Windsor. Pretty much, my program is a 2 and a half year co-op program that allows me to get all of my training and schooling done for being able to be a liscenced mechanic. Any ways, we got out of class back in July to go out on our 1 year co-op placement but the job market in Windsor is terrible. So since then, the only job in the automotive industry i have found was working at nissan working 48 hours a week washing cars even though i was hired to be doing lube and tire jobs. Any ways, i was there for a week and just got fed-up with it and also i was working in unsafe conditions *no chemical or WHIMS training, also using indoor electrical cords that werent water proof in big puddels of water*. So ive been looking REALLY badly to find a job. Ive searched pretty much all over windsor, and surrounding areas. Even all the way up to Lonodon ON, about 2 hours away, just so i can work. Any ways, after looking for as long as a i had, i decided to go check out the unemployment office to see if they had any job postings, not even automotive related just so i could get some $ coming in, sure enough as i walked in there was a big white board outside that has the "HOT" jobs posted on it. Second one down the list was "Automotive mechanic/apprentice needed!" So i took the info, figured out where it was *only about 20 min down the road from me*, went in, dropped off a resume about 2 weeks ago. Any ways, called back a few days later, but every time i called back, i couldnt get the service manager becuase they were so busy. So i finaly got a hold of her after maybe 5 or 6 trys over a weeks time since i dropped the resume off. I finaly get a hold of her and she tells me "Oh right now, we r really busy but i dont know if we still need some one or not. But i will keep your resume on file". So i thought that would be a no, but sure enough a week later she calls back and says "So, you think you can come in on tuesday and work from 9-5??" So sure enough i said yea and started working. So they hired me on as an apprentice/lube tech. So i get my own bay, i work 5 days a week, get sundays and fridays off. Only work from 9-5 daily, where as every other Canadian Tire store's shop is open 7days a week and are open from 8-9 daily, but our store is smaller so we r only open less hours. But the best thing is i get a 20% discount on every thing in store, and luckly there were tons of tools onsale. I got a 92 peice socket set + a 9 drawer tool cabnit for $300, 32 peice wrench set + a 14 peice stubby set and a 47 peice screw driver set for $45, and a 28 peice socket set for $54. And its all quality stuff too, all life time garentted and the tool box is pretty much just like a snap-on one too. So i got like $1200 worth of tools for around $500. Im quite happy, and ive already helped out another 6gc member. I helped Mike_E get a set of winter tires for his celica.

Congrats Brian. I'm also in dieing need for a job. But then again I'm still in school and a little too lazy to work. Well atleast don't want to do something I dont want to do. I wouldn't mind being a lube tech though.

and no i havent booted him out yet, he cleaned up his act alot..but he did do somethin stupid last night, he took out our recyling at like 12:30 or somethin like that, came in and kicked the door closed behind him, but it didnt fully close, so our front door was open all night when it was like 27F or like -5C. Luckaly no one came in and stole any thing, but it was still stupid, i yelled at him alot this morning b4 i went to work.

Man your toolbox is too neat. Mine was like that when I first bought the tools though too lol. I only use snap on and Mac tools though. Both snap on and mac trucks come once a week to sell and warranty tools to us. I have easily over 6 grand in tools. Oh and speaking of cordless impacts my snap on 18v cordless can break anything! I break axle nuts off left and right with it. I love it. Havent found anything it cant break yet.

I agree on this. I love Snap On and Mac tools. My half brother just got his Mac Tools truck a few months ago. So discounts for me... biggrin.gif

Yea i ended up buyin an ingersol Rand Titanium impact gun, 2 year warrenty through IR, but lifetime through our snap-on rep. Its a great gun, and its light too. I already used it to snap 2 bolts holding a subframe on an Oldsmobile. The tools im usin otherwise are Mastercraft, they are Canadian tire's version of Craftsman, but a bit better. They have life time warrenty too like snapon, but the best part is, if i break a wrench of socket, i take the broken socket or wrench over to the customer service desk, show them, then go pull a new one off the shelf and go right back to work..lol. But im gonna b pickin up some snap-on tools as i go too. I just need a topbox.

And as for my box being clean, i ALWAYS! keep it that clean. Like i clean every tool after i use it, b4 i put it back, even if im gonna b takin it out again in 5 min. I put every thing back exactly where it belongs and i oil my gun every week. I got to be soo anal about my tools cuz ive lost soooo many over the years workin at home or at friends houses.
