i have the header but i was having issue getting the 3 bolts out of the lower pipe, rusted as ****. any suggestions on that. I didnt want to break the bolts until im sure the header will fit and work without burning up my engine compartment with more intense heat then the car already makes.
pics and info appreciated. |

I bought this header off of E-bay. It's quality is pretty good. It bolted up to the stock exhaust no problem. It has bungs for the O2 sensors. It works alright. I really can't comment on the sound or the power gain as I did a lot off work at the same time when I put it on my Celica. It does get pretty hot. I'm thinking about making a heat shield to keep the heat from destroying my wiring harness. It doesn't look real pretty anymore, as it has turned color with age & heat. But it isn't rusting.

Or is there a better alternative? a better alternative is going to an exhaust shop and having them make you an exhaust (either cat back or from the ex mani back) probably for cheaper than the greddy. -------------------- |

put some heat wrap on that bad boy...that'll solve heat issues under hood...but then you'd need new garage decorations
![]() i dunno what kind of emission standards you have in washington state...but even if you don't put that header on you could gut the cats...i mean we all know how restrictive they are but it just seems so much worse when you actually pull the thing off and see all that tight honeycomb |

If you're worried about heat then just wrap it with heat wrap, you might enjoy the quicker response from having a header on your car. -------------------- |

Gutted cats are effective only in creating turbulence in your exhaust stream and royally screwing up the smooth flow of gas out of the engine. Having the conduit for your exhaust rapidly increase in diametre and then just as quickly neck back down is a great way to allow the gas to expand, cool, slow and produce backpressure (no backpressure is not a good thing, even for NA engines). That tight honeycomb is actually a highly efficient design which flows the exhaust gases almost as well as a straight, properly sized pipe. If the performance difference between a proper pipe and a cat matters to you, I hope you always remember to empty your bladder before driving too, as that makes about as much difference. If you're running a stock cat and are concerned it's clogged (which requires a screwy AF ratio, bad gas or some other form of contamination), pick up a quality aftermarket piece such as a Car Sound high-flow cat (parent company of MagnaFlow). Basic logic -- you and your car will perform better in clean air. And the air will be around to use a lot longer than your car. |

The cool thing im military so i dont have to worry about emissions or safety inspections. i live in WA but im not a WA resident. So my windows also could be as dark as they want. hehe.
Not gonna gut the cat. I just got the header cause it was cheap so id check it out. I do wanna go turbo sometime the end of this year after my interior project but thats a whole new subject. as of now though im still trieing to find a decent full exaust that will bolt right on. |
